Quick question,

Looks like we may be going to the US later in the year and specifically the west coast. Looking to do a mini road trip starting in SF and working out way from there.

We're not fussed about 5* and will be happy in a US style Premier Inn for the night as we work our way around so what are the US equivalent chains that I should be looking at?

Ta!

We used a lot of Best Western and also Drury Inns.

Most of the Drury Inns seem to have something called Kick Back which was basically free food in the afternoon.

For real budget outfits Motel 6 and Super 8 have places in every one horse town and interstate/ highway turnoffs.

$50-90 per night.

My daughter stayed in a Days Inn last Sunday - said it was OKish, but no breakfast.

We normally stay at Hampton Inn (Hilton), Marriott or Holiday Inn. On our last trip we did try a motel and a random hotel on Long Island near LGA - both with booking.com and they were fine.

Don't expect a Premier Inn style breakfast though.

The Drury include a free hot breakfast too as well as the afternoon Kick Back. Won't be a full English, but good enough to get you on your way.

We stayed at a few Best Westerns and Hampton Inns when we did a 3 week California road trip a few years back. They were all dated with beige walls and swirly bedspreads BUT all were clean and did the job perfectly, typically had much bigger rooms than 'posh' hotels, no stupid resort fees, and free parking in all of them as far as I remember.

We used this one the night before we visited Yosemite as it can be hard to get accommodation within the park at times -
