Hello all

Planning a trip to NCY with the family. Not been for 10 years. Going October. Any recommendations for a good hotel well situated to do the touristy things. Won’t be eating any meals in the hotel but if there was an indoor pool that would be good. Happy with a Novotel/Premier Inn quality as time in the hotel will be limited.

Any recommendations appreciated.

Thanks

For hotels look at staying on Long Island close to the Subway or LIRR - just be aware some stations are closed in the evening (eg Carle Place) as we found out when returning after a basketball match. We were able to do all the touristy things from there.

We normally stay at one of Hilton, Marriott or Holiday Inn - and most have a pool.

Last year we stayed in the Hilton Garden Inn New York/Midtown Park Avenue - family of 4.
All was good with the room (2 doubles I think), breakfast was limited but a great diner just round the corner, no pool though.
Seemed like a decent location for getting around Manhattan, metro stop really close etc, without being super touristy.

For clarity on this - I assume for the OPs benefit you actually mean Long Island City as any further out and your going to be spending min.30mins each way subwaying every time you want to go into Manhattan.

Same principle could be said with Jersey City via PATH.

Honestly - I’d recommend neither. I’ve done both as a frequent visitor to New York for work and play and while you may save a small amount it’s just not worth the extra time wasted you’ll spend travelling back/forth.

Agreed. Also it sounds like you are taking kids, I wouldn't take mine on the subway anyway, unless I wanted them to learn some colourful language and see some things that kids shouldn't.

I'd recommend the Arlo hotels, there are 3 in Manhattan, but I'm not sure if they have family rooms.

We stayed at the Midtown one: https://www.arlohotels.com/midtown
Easy walk to Times Square etc but far enough away for it to be a lot quieter.
