Flew to Ireland and back over the hols (stansted to knock)
On both the outward and return legs the Ryanair staff at the boarding gate were checking bag sizes - lots of bags checked and zero tolerance on any infringement
Wondering if it’s a new policy?
Fly with Ryanair several times a year and never seen so many bags checked - usually it’s just the obviously oversized stuff

I believe that flights to Ireland have been busy recently due to the closure of Holyhead for storm damage repairs (so no ferries on that route). Admittedly Knock is a way away but could have something to do with it?

When they get strict with cabin bags it is usually because the plane is full, ime.

My son got pulled up when flying to Spain a few weeks ago back, £60 charge.

Not checked coming back or on the same Ryanair route earlier in the year. Flight was very busy

We flew out of Birmingham to Faro back in September. The flight was delayed and Ryanair staff started to check bags, no discretion and £70 to put in the hold. About a third of passengers were randomly checked. We thought it was a ruse to keep the waiting passengers pre-occupied at the gate - but suspect it was a money making exercise, as very, very, few passengers were taking the p*ss with outrageously overside bags. We fly Ryanair 3-4 times a year and never seen this before. One cm oversize - that is £70!

I thought ground staff were on commission to nail as many bags as possible.

I've read of plenty of cases of bags fitting perfectly in the thing and the staff denying it alternative facts-style.

Easy jet were busy doing this in December. Provided great entertainment at the gates watching the pi55 takers getting all excited /agitated when they had to cough up the extra.

I saw one guy on a recent flight, jumping up and down on his bag to make it 'fit' in the size checking cage. It did. However, he then couldn't get it out and missed they flight as they refused to help him. No idea whether he got it out or not in the end. Knob.
