Does anyone have actual experience of taking a second car on a trailer with Le Shuttle ? And if so what paperwork was checked etc for the second car and was it logged as leaving the UK ? I want to take a classic car to the continent but not necessarily bring it back very quickly. I know with a motorbike in the back with luggage, they didn’t bat an eyelid. Didn’t ask for short term export or anything. But I’m thinking a car on a trailer they might log it out of the UK. The car is a classic, over 40 years, MOT and tax exempt. Fully UK insured, V5 in my name.

Yes I do it a lot. Majority of the time you'll be fine for a road car with v5 in your name. Spare parts with it is more the risk. Wouldn't hurt to sort the temporary import doc out tho, ideally the French one.

I took a 1974 BMW over on a trailer just before Christmas and didn't have to provide/show anything. I was expecting to be quizzed but the only person who asked anything was a French customs officer, who seemed to think I was taking in to France to sell. When I explained that I was certainly NOT going to sell it and that it was going to an exhibition, she just waived us through....

I was more anxious about the rented trailer; having been warned by the rental company that I should maintain that it was mine and not rented. Much documentation would have been needed for a rental, apparently.
