I promised I'd do a write up of our recent trip to the South of France after being inspired by 2 Smokin Barrells and BR D's wanderings and musings.

We returned yesterday, so hopefully people are still in a holiday mood to read what I post up once I've put down some words and edited some pics over the next few days.

Some themes for the thread:

Is this the perfect continental load lugger to carry 4 passengers plus luggage over 1800 miles in comfort, speed and (sort of) economy (a 9yr old 3.0 Bitdi Audi A6 Avant)?

A fair bit of wine content:

A detour on bike up the Ventoux:

The blue sky, blue sea, and boats of the Golfe de St Tropez:

And 10 days of sunshine with the family in wonderful scenery where driving, cycling or just relaxing with a glass of wine or two is a real pleasure:

Plenty more to come!

Motoring through France is one of my favourite things to do - I've driven coast to coast many times.

When the kids were young, I would drive down on my own taking 3 days to do it - it was my reward for working huge hours all year... I often didn't book anything other than the crossing either - it was good fun to just 'find' somewhere and I had many adventures. I would meet my family at the airport with a suitable rental car (I would often be in a two seater) and job done!

I'm off again in a couple of weeks in my new toy (911) and hope the weather holds.

It is becoming an annual tradition for me, my Dad and my Brother to do a driving trip in the Loire region......I would love to have some fun in my Corvette in the south of France, but it really is a lot further than the Loire, not sure I'll ever convince the other two to extend it down that way.

Love driving down through France, but, unfortunately, ill health has prevented it for the last 6 years.

We used to take 4 or 5 days to reach Spanish or Portuguese destinations.
I used to travel a lot for work with approx 6 months a year in hotels, and so the points meant some super hotel stays.
