Have a road trip in September to the Picos in northern Spain and the Serra Estrela in Portugal. Any suggestions for specific roads?

We think we have a good route and a good set of roads worked out but will be first time for us (1 x 991.1 C2S, 2 x 991.2 C2S, 1 x 991.2 GT3, 1 x Emira). We're there for a good stretch. Fingers crossed the weather will be sun and the roads will be dream.

The N-621 from Unquera up to Potes is really scenic going through the gorge. I don't remember going beyond on Potes on that road but it looks good on Google with some well sighted hairpins to enjoy.

The CA-184 which branches off the N-621 just before Potes was out run to where we stayed, so again didn't go too far but might be another option.

It's a famous cycling climb, so expect cyclists, but the road up to Lagos de Covadonga is a big climb up in the mountains.

Shame our hire car when we went was a Nissan Juke...

Every biker in Europe now hates me. The route from Riaño to Cangas is not well suited to your cars, hot hatches or Seven's would be better, bikes best. Actually the whole route isn't that well suited to stiffly sprung cars, in general the roads are narrow, poorly surfaced and often badly sighted. But spectacular.

Don't forget to visit Fuente Dé, the trip up the cable car is spectacular, a worthwhile diversion and the road there is fun. Also... Don't forget! At the Puerto de San Glorio to turn right up to Collado de Llesba and the Bear statue, fabulous view. And Don't Forget! between those two there's the parking spot with the Metal Deer statue and another awesome view.

Enjoy. Hope you get the weather. If you're there the last week in September there'll be an orange UK plate 1 series floating about, say hi smile

I went last year (Picos, Serra da Estrella and more) and included some thoughts, routes, photos in my Reader's Cars thread here (post dated 29.Dec>)...

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

There's also a link in the OP to seefar's thread and his similar trip last year.

The initial part of the N-621 travelling south was a bit disappointing, but after Potes it keeps getting better. I'm out again this year so might see you, (silver 718).

Day1 is off the ferry at Santander, coast road to Cangas then south on the N-625 > Riano, North onto the N-621 and stay at Fuente De with an evening trip on the cable car (buy tickets in advance and cross your fingers for the weather). Then off to Serra de Estrella again, hard to find a bad road here imo, but some suggestions in the linked threads. HTH
