For the regular Portsmouth ferry crowd... any suggestions for good restaurants that are near to the Brittany Ferries check-in and have plentiful free parking?

Good restaurants and free plentiful parking don’t go together in a city.

If you’re happy to pay for parking I can suggest good restaurants.

Yeah thought that might be the case... with that in mind what would you suggest?

Go to Port Solent, park up in the car park, visit one of the many Reasturants on the marina, then drive to the ferry port a few mins away. Then you dont have to go into Portsmouth itself. Win win

Maya is my top restaurant in Portsmouth and has good on street parking around it which always has space (unless travelling when an event is on like victorious

Next door is El Greco Greek which is more informal and is more affordable or brew house and kitchen if you want more traditional pub fayre.

Huis is probably my second best restaurant in Portsmouth although on street parking can get full certain times of day but you can almost always find space a bit further along.

Abarbistro is I believe the only restaurant in the good food guide within the city although the pizzas I don’t rate as high as the other menu items. Parking in front generally with spaces. Don’t try the resident roads there as they are 30 or 60mph only as permit parking.

For pizza florios on street parking readily available or there’s the dolphin pub which is very good. https://maps.app.goo.gl/ekGi4SbRwSZzoEjk6?g_st=com...

As suggested, Port Solent - easy parking, somewhat of a choice (of chains) and 5 mins from the port.

You’re in Pompey, so the answer is: No.

You are (much) better off going 5mins up the 27 to the Hayling Island jnt and hanging a right. Before you get to the bridge of doom across to HI, you will see The Ship Inn on the left. V good food, good beer, good views across the, er, mud or water depending on the tide. Free parking.

Not everywhere is 5 minutes from the port everyone and of course for this suggestion the OP may already be passing here. The other thread this week thought hedge end is only 10min from here also. So double any times people put except me wink

Brasserie Blanc in Gunwharf Keys to kick off with some good French food. You have the shops too if you want to kill time.

We're on the overnight crossing in about 2 weeks and have never tried Port Solent for a pre-ferry meal - this has given us new ideas, thank you!

There are 3 basic options -

Port Solent as already mentioned. Never been, but looking at the restaurants there on Google Maps it looks pretty dire.
Gunwharf Keys - again, already mentioned - lots more chain restaurants, a couple of which are OK, but nothing earth shattering
"Central Portsmouth" - where we went when we were getting the 2 night boat to Santander. We ate at 7-Bone. Food was ok. Parking was pretty easy, but did cost a couple of £.

Personally, I'd just find a restaurant I wanted to eat in and then plan everything around that. Nothing is going to cost mega £ or mean you miss your ferry.

Whilst it's too late for you, and probably unwanted advice, I would always avoid this situation.

If travelling to Spain, then go via Plymouth. The ferry leaves (and arrives) at a much more sensible time and you have the option of a cabin with a balcony, so you can watch the dolphins at your leisure. It is well worth the extra couple of hours drive to Plymouth. I will NEVER do Portsmouth -> Spain ever again (I will do Spain -> Portsmouth quite happily). Well, I might, if Brittany Ferries change the scheduling of the crossings.

If travelling to France, then go via St. Malo. The boat leaves at 8:15pm, and you can have a very nice relaxed dinner on the boat.

Whichever crossing you do chose, Priority Disembarkation at £15 / car / leg is worth every penny. You get to board quite early, and you get off VERY early.

+1 if your on the St.Malo ferry. The food is of reasonable quality, although not quite as good as back in the mid 00’s. The bar prices are however super reasonable.
I suppose they are lulling you into a false sense of security as some of the bar prices in France are eye watering.

Only available December-February on the St. Malo route as far as I can see, and with the considerable extra expense of a top-level cabin.
