Good morning,

I am after some inspiration!

We have 2 boys (13 and 11) and I am on my own next week with them as my wife is at work.

Essentially, I am after some thoughts on what to do.

We live near Henley-on-Thames and an apartment in central London so have done the majority of the activities around there. They have Merlin / International War Museum so Duxford, Alton Towers, Thorpe Park etc have been done recently.

Thinking of going somewhere for a couple of nights, by train or car, but not certain where to go.

Thanks.

If the kids liked Duxford you could head to Dorset/Somerset for one or all of the Tank Museum (easy add on for the D-Day museum on Portland), or the Fleet Air Arm (and nearby Haynes motor museum), or the small Museum of Army Flying near Salisbury (in the excellently named village of Middle Wallop).

I've recently had a break near the Tank Museum and would highly recommend it - it was recommended to me but even that recommendation didn't do it justice!

We stayed here - https://www.watersideholidaygroup.co.uk/our-holida...

And it was really nice - I went with my 10 yr old who spent a lot of time in the pool or playing table tennis. There's also a great pub a short walk across a field so you could leave the car alone if you wanted. Weymouth is 10 minutes away too if they like their arcades - plus there's some nice places to eat on the quay side.

Near neighbour of yours here - Caversham.

Are they/you into cycling? Plenty of rides out around you without actually 'going anywhere'.

I guess you've done 'stuff on the river' to death.

How about the British Motor Museum at Gaydon? https://www.britishmotormuseum.co.uk/
Avebury Stone Circle? https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/a...
Crofton Beam Engines? https://www.croftonbeamengines.org/
Caen Hill Locks? https://canalrivertrust.org.uk/canals-and-rivers/p...

All within about an hour of you.

I took my two boys on the ferry to the Normandy beaches last August, camped in a lovely little site just above Arromanches.

I was going to suggest center parcs,

Weekend can be extended as you don’t need to leave park once checked out of lodge stay in subtropical zone all day.

Thank you for the replies so far and good to see that we all think alike!

We used to live on the South coast so have ticked off Tank Museum (about a million times I think!), Brooklands etc.

Centre parcs - good shout, will investigate.

Local area - we do loads of cycling / walking so will be exploring more of the cycle paths.

Take a trip to shropshire.

https://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/midlands/

https://www.ironbridge.org.uk/

https://svr.co.uk/

All worth a day or 2. And just a stone's throw from some superb driving and scenic roads.

You can't go wrong with Centre parcs.

I’m guessing you already have national trust membership but if not then get that. Plenty of places to visit.

Great for a 13 and 11 year old?
