Kids have long left home however we have a mermaid legacy in the house so Ms F'tunch wishes to take us to Copenhagen

Im aware its expensive however if we book flights and B&B accomodation how bad can it be in reality?

Having said that we like good food and so would eat 'fancy' a couple of nights and 'local' for the others if there is a decent food scene....

And the Mrs is into Scandi flix so one of our days will inevitably involve a train trip to Malmo

Thoughts and opinions welcome please - in particular places to eat offering good value (dont mind paying but Im from Leeds #Yorkshire) as well as top end food if considered worth the premium

Cheers

Didn’t think it that expensive other than booze. I did think it an underwhelming place on the whole though.

I didn’t find it expensive but coming from Dubai that isn’t a comparison that would compare with Leeds (not a dig, I’m a loiner!).

Stayed in an Airbnb on Bredgade, very convenient location.

We (6 of us) went specifically as we had a booking at Noma. One of our party is a (top end) Swedish chef, Bork!

With that in mind, the most surprising meal we had was at Khmer Cuisine, a Cambodian place we went to on the first night purely as it was convenient. A real gem, and not at all expensive.

Bird for cocktails. By far the best we had, nice relaxed place with good music.

Baka d’busk if you need to satisfy a veggie, yet not disappoint those who aren’t.

Sanchez decent as a lunch option, one of the few ex noma staff resto’s who open for lunch.

Similarly popl. Burger joint but I would go back for the fried prawns.

Propaganda. Korean with a wine shop attached. You can buy wine in the shop at normal prices and there no corkage fee after midnight. Great for late eats.

Bobe is supposedly the restaurant of the moment, we didn’t eat there though.

For casual dining and drinking, you can’t go far wrong in the meatpacking district.

Noma was a disappointment btw. I can well imagine its impact 20yrs ago but it fell flat in almost every area.

Agree that it’s not a ‘wow’ city but it was mostly grey and rainy when we went I don’t think I ever saw the sky. Design museum was worth a look. Can’t really recall anything remarkable other than grundtvig’s church.

Only been once, and a while ago now (just before covid hit) but we absolutely loved Copenhagen.

My observations/recommendations, for what it's worth:

We stayed at the Nobis which I'd recommend 100% but might not be everyone's taste (and isn't cheap, as such). Their restaurant is nice in its own right, and their little bar is very nice indeed.

Tivoli gardens are well worth a visit - you think it'll be a bit tacky, and it sort of is, but in a good way. You can have a go on the wooden rollercoaster and there's a bunch of mostly decent places to eat, including some fairly posh restaurants.

Seems to me the "new nordic cuisine" thing is a little bit over, as mentioned above. Also the meatpacking eating and drinking area just reminded me of Croydon Boxpark, and just as appealing.

I would however recommend the hotdog vans - seriously - those hotdogs are amazing, and cheap!

Loads to see, mostly quite picturesque and nice for a wander about. Enjoy!

I think it depends on what part of the UK you are from... London and the South East a pint of beer or glass of wine will be about the same I reckon.

Have to agree with the above. We did a long weekend a few years ago but it was around October/November time. The highlight being Tivoli Gardens and their Halloween themed evenings.... can't say there was much else that really stood out for me.

we had a great weekend in Copenhagen a couple of years ago.
take a boat trip, we got one near the stock exchange which has sadly burnt down recently.
hire a bike, they are every where and there's not many cars around.
our food tastes are fairly simple so can't help you there.
there was a good beer bar called Taphouse, think from memory we were paying £8 to £10 a pint.
train to/from the airport was quick, easy and cheap, I would imagine Malmo is easy too.

Don’t think so, I was paying nearly £10 a pint 7 years ago. It’s an expensive place to drink

Obviously it will go up and down, I live next-door in Sweden but from the south coast of the UK. I think they are about the same unless you are used to drinking in rat holes in Pompey or Southampton that is? + the place is immeasurably nicer, so it's worth the extra.

Thankfully for me, it's a quick jaunt over the bridge.

I live just north of Copenhagen. Happy to give tips and info. Let me know dates you’re thinking. A lot of things depend on which month and how st the weather is.

Been to CPH a couple of times and it wouldn't be my preferred place to go. Mind you it was for a conference so was in the city centre on/off.

You can get some good deals on flights though thats for sure.

It was a nice clean city, good tram network, there was a lot of nice restaurants in the city and the dock areas rather nice.

Malmo is full of unsavoury characters from what ive heard now so I wouldn't get too excited about there, the oresund bridge is quite a feat of engineering but you'll only see a part of it as a lot of the journey is in a tunnel from memory.

The very opposite of fancy dining, but Folkehuset Absalon was a novel place for cheap food/drink and socialising with the locals, before joining in with other events. It's maybe not your thing at all, but people there were very welcoming, even if they were much better than me at table tennis.

Went a couple of years ago after a week and a half in Sweden.

Didn't eat anywhere particularly special as our boy is 8. I was pretty happy with Sporvejen for a decent burger to be honest, and massive steins of beer.

We came down from Gothenburg on the train so came across The Bridge. Was nice to finally do that, as long time fans of the series. Don't bother booking tickets though - you can just buy on the day and seats can't be reserved anyway.

We just spent 3 days wandering about so I can't recall any stand out moments. Went to Tivoli Gardens. As someone that's not remotely bothered by roller coasters it got boring quick, but I did love the old wooden one which we went on early. It seemed to take a lot of people by surprise, put it that way! Ate at the adjacent Sticks n Sushi afterwards which is a chain with a few outlets across the city, but it was actually really decent.

You can watch these things without sound y’know. A good way to find things for a prospective holiday is to use your IG feed.
