We are off into France in a couple of weeks time and we are staying less than hour away (La Garangeoire camping for those who know it) from Puy du Fou for 6 nights before moving on further south towards Il De Oleron.

Everyone who has been seems to enjoy it but the question im interested in is whether to do a day or 2 days? My kids are 10 and 6, so fatigue is a factor but I understand you can't do it all in a day. I'm starting to think I should have forgotten about travelling further south and just stayed in the same place but part of the adventure in going to France is seeing different parts of the country, albeit on a whistle stop itinerary.

We did bit of it in one day. Yes it's great but you need good French to fully understand some of the commentary.

The coast around there is stunning.

Can't help with PuF, but I have stayed at La Garangeoire (part of the Castel group) a few years back, and its a decent place. The pool area if that's your thing is a bit small though. It also had a man-made sandy beachy area which is perfect for younger kids and a cool down, but the coast is only a short drive away if you want a real beach. Don't know if they do it anymore, but they held a pancake evening which is a good social for the adults / parents. If staying in a mobile homes/chalet, try to get one further to the back facing directly a circular field (less footfall and a huge space for kids to play games etc..). Final note: the Eurocamp Aspect mobile homes are worth the investment as the Aircon is a welcomed relief during the hot days!

A day is enough, did it a couple of times when the kids were younger.

Pre covid there used to be a big evening finale which is worth staying for

Thanks for the replies. Think we might do a day and then another one if we are back again next year.

It can be done in a day but it needs to be planned like a military operation.
I would go with flow,I haven’t been for a few year but Viking village show and gladiator show in the colosseum are definitely worth seeing,so is the flaming chateau and knights on horse back.

Take plenty of sunscreen and hats, the sun can be brutal. It will ruin your day if you’re not properly prepared.
If you go to the gladiator show get there early, the shaded side fills up very quickly.

When the children were younger we stayed at La Foret a few times, which is just down the road from La Garangoeire that we also visited. It’s a really easy run from St. Malo.

It’s a great location and there is so much to visit around the area. Day trips to La Rochelle and the adjacent islands are possible. I personally, when the children were younger preferred to stay in the same place to avoid multiple mobile home check in's / out.
