Hi,

I've got a place on a Bentley Factory tour booked at Crewe in September. It's a 3-4 hour drive for me so I'd like to drive up the afternoon before, travelling with the missus. Does anyone have any recommendations for nice places to stay maybe 20 miles south of Crewe? A decent pub with rooms would be fine but quality of food there or thereabouts is important. Not expensing it so no Le Manoirs if you please. Preferably not too modern. I don't know that area at all - it looks like there are loads of villages in that area - maybe something tucked away?

Thanks in advance.

Andy

Somewhere in or around Chester. Either the City itself which is small, compact and full of Roman history (bit like a mini York) or one of the surrounding villages. Chester Grosvenor Hotel is one of the 5 star places in the City and then there is Carden Park Golf & Spa out of the city in the Cheshire Countryside.

Or Crewe Hall on the outskirts of Crewe, it's about 3 miles off Junction 16 of the M6

Better than staying in Stafford or Stoke.

More west than south but Peckforton Castle fits the bill

Chester is a fair bit past Chester only to come back.

Rookery Hall in Nantwich used to be good.
No idea if it still is.

Crewe itself is a sthole....avoid.

Druggies, empty shops the usual. Used to be a decent place, although it is surrounded by some nice countryside,

Thanks for the replies guys - appreciated. It has to be south of Crewe - I don't want to detour too far - 20-30 miles would be ideal and I'd rather spend around £100 on a room - a decent village pub with rooms and nice food is really what I'm after - will keep looking.

Hi

Goldstone Hall, Market Drayton..

Nip along the M54 a junction, up the A41, then country lanes.. nice countryside drive to Bentley, via Market Drayton, Audlem and Nantwich.

I was coming to suggest Goldstone Hall as well

Another option would be The Bear at Hodnet : https://www.thebearinnhodnet.com/

Also Hawkstone Hall as well https://hawkstonehall.co.uk/hotel/

No problem. If you are up on a Wednesday, The Bear is just over the road from Hodnet Hall Gardens which is a lovely place for a stroll round and has a cracking garden restaurant / tea rooms.

Continuing the bear theme.... The Bears Paw in Warmingham is really nice. Stayed there many times when working in Cheshire (it's close to Crewe rather then south of):

There is a very nice restaurant near Wychwood park which is on the way from the factory back to join the M6 south called The Broughton. Its not just nice for the local area but nice full stop in my opinion. There is also a reasonable hotel at Wychwood park.
