I'd put Porto nearer the top - out of all of those one of my favourite cities and rightly above Lisbon. I found Berlin rather meh unfortunately and Manchester,... jeez?? And to miss our Florence?, well, am oot

Some interesting ones on that list for sure! Wonder what criteria was used for making the list!

Whichever scouser wrote that list clearly hasn't been to the places in it.

Cape Town would be a worthy number 2 if you were only doing a Google Image Search.

Dubious list. I've spent time in all but Porto. Sau Paulo an interesting call.

Yep... Also define "best"... Food, culture, livability, affordability, safety, place to raise a kid... The result of "best" changes depending on which categories you consider important.

Looks like a random list of cities really.

This is a pointless list that likely deliberately ignores half of the world.

Indeed, completely missed central and eastern Europe, Middle East and SE Asia.

Liverpool is better than Tokyo, Rome, Mumbai and Lisbon?

And Bangkok, Istanbul, Athens, Budapest, Prague, Hanoi etc don't even get a mention. Is Liverpool really in another league to them?

The list just looks lazy with a few left field choices like São Paulo and Lagos thrown in to make it look a little less obvious.

Criteria.

As in previous years, the basis of the ranking remains our global survey of the people who know their city best: the locals. Working with research company Potentia Insight, we surveyed thousands of city-dwellers about the quality and affordability of food, culture and nightlife in their city. We also asked locals how their city makes them feel: are they happy there? Is it a beautiful place? Is it easy to make social connections? Their thousands of responses gave us a unique insight into the reality of living in the world’s greatest cities right now.

It’s also far too subjective a topic.

I’d put Liverpool on the bottom 20 list.

Yeah, nah.

One is cultured, clean, quiet, safe, modern, served by the most efficient public transport system in the world and just an all round nice place.

The other is a toilet. That's been used. And not flushed. Twice. Both times spicy diarrhea.

(apologies to any scoucers... but its true la)

I take serious issue with NYC being at the top too. The buildings and geography are amazing but the people are rude and arrogant while the streets stink of weed and are covered in st.

A list written by people who go on holiday rather than travel.

Perfect, I don't want them spoiling the really great places.

Thanks T.O. wink

I travel a lot to cities in the USA and my favourite place so far has been Nashville, and I don't even like country music. NY is great as well, Chicago I haven't been to, but L.A......really? As John Lennon / Jasper Carrot might say, it's not even the best city in California.

As for Liverpool being ahead of Tokyo, well I've been to both, and Tokyo just about edges that close fought battle rofl

Seriously, whoever compiled that list is on mind bending drugs.
