Car Hire - Sardinia
Discussion
I went with a local cheapy.
Waited ages on an off airport industrial estate.
Decent almost new Alfa, after refusing the Fiat Mulipla or something. Alfa had no fuel, and was difficult to work the fuel pumps at the auto filling stations, even though my italian is completely fluent (not).
Son No2 threw up in said Alfa.
Then it broke down.
Turned out I was apparently responsible for getting it back to the airport.
Did so, and got another Alfa.
It was lovely, and I enjoyed it very much.
Returned it to a different airport than the collection one.
No problem, everything OK, but I did loose a day returning cars.
Sardinia is lovely, and very hot in August.
All in all, about what was expected. I'm very glad I didn't have the Mulipla thing.

Just got back, we had a Jeep Compass for the entire time which we rented through Europcar.
Collection, return, cleanliness, everything was spot on and the car was brand new. In fact the only thing that drove me up the wall was the flashing speed warning light which I was too stupid to deactivate.

It looks like having something with decent suspension can help if off the motorways.
I can see from your other thread you're now going to the South. We went two years ago and hired from here :
https://www.autonoleggiosardinya.com/en/noleggio-a...
It was quite a bit cheaper than the big names - no noticeable queue when collecting / returning the car (although we went end of September which is off season). Collection / return is at the airport.
Car was pretty new, in excellent condition - although it was a small hybrid Fiat thing which was gutless and horrible, but did the job.
No problems with them at all.
If I went back, I'd use them again - although I'd choose a different car!

Im going at the end of September and arriving on a 9am flight so hoping queues wouldn't be a problem.
Being an island I can imagine cars are minimal.
I've booked with Mercator at the moment and will keep an eye on the big shark prices as they are double at the moment.

We went end of September, and out of season really is out of season. Almost none of the normal "attractions" are available - they have all closed a month earlier.
Sardinia was a nice enough place - but we went at the wrong time. We were very limited in what we could do.

When you say attractions what do you mean? Archaeology etc?We went end of September, and out of season really is out of season. Almost none of the normal "attractions" are available - they have all closed a month earlier.

I can't remember all of the things we tried but we almost always found we couldn't.
Beaches have stuff you can take out on the water - but not at the end of September. There are scuba diving / snorkelling trips - but not out of season. Most tourist stuff is closed.
Obviously Cagliari is a town so has normal town stuff. And we did go to some underground caves which were cool. But mostly, it was sitting on the beach or driving around a bit aimlessly because there were not many other options.

Ah, we won't be doing any of that sort of stuff, I was more concerned with restaurants not being available.Beaches have stuff you can take out on the water - but not at the end of September. There are scuba diving / snorkelling trips - but not out of season. Most tourist stuff is closed.
