Enterprise Plus Rewards Points

Anyone on here use these much?
I must admit to just having accounts with most of the major brands and then pick the most cost-effective each time. I noticed I had some points with Enterprise and, handily, they were also looking the cheapest for an upcoming rental. Had enough points to pay for one day's hire.
Only, it turns out that you can't use the points if you want to pay up front, only on pay later. And pay later was about 10% more. So it would have cost me £18 more to redeem my one day's worth of hire, than to just pay for the whole lot up front.
Unless I'm missing something wtf is the point of that?
