Has anyone taken out National Trust membership abroad? The cost is considerably less and they have reciprocal agreements with several other countries including NT and NTS.

Specifically, the Maltese NT is €40 for joint membership https://dinlarthelwa.org/membership/

Has anyone done this and been able to access NT properties the same as a UK member?
Is Malta NT the best option abroad and are there any residency restrictions?

Thanks in advance.

  • Before anyone takes umbrage at this query, I have previously paid full price for NT membership and regularly use their cafes, book shops etc. I also was a member during the covid era and lost 50% of my membership, without a refund.

You'll need a Maltese address.

New applications for membership to Din l-Art Ħelwa, will only be sent membership cards if they have a local address in Malta. No refunds can be given for incorrectly submitted applications. Non Malta residents are invited to take up membership with the national trust of their own country.

Thank you.
Is there any other country, which doesn’t have such a residency restriction?

I'm sure it used to be possible to buy Scottish membership which included English locations, not sure if that's still an option?

It still seems to be that way, although it does caveat that there may be restrictions at individual locations?

It's $550 NZ (£265) for overseas family membership.
