For a summer break we're looking to spend a 7-10 days staying maybe in a forest, with some mountains, a lake, beautiful surroundings and good exploring potential, sunny weather but obviously not blisteringly hot. Will have a car. Have looked at Attersee in Austria. Any suggestions of other locations or tips around this one please? thanks

Matt..

What do you actually want? Somewhere secluded? Somewhere with people? Lake activities like boats/kayaks? Hiking? Mountains?

There's a big difference between somewhere like Annecy or Lake Garda and a remote location in Norway or Sweden!

Black Forest, & Lake Schluchsee, last time we went the buses and trains were free, so left the car at the hotel and sampled a few beer gardens on the alpine walks/nordic skiing routes from village to village.

Also Jura region, some nice walks, scenery, lovely lakes, very tranquil.

Linnansaari National Park in Finland. There are more lakes than land. It's a stunning place with unbelievable views and amazing wildlife.
