Somewhere warm and not long haul early October
Discussion
I have been advised by SWMBO that I need to organise a holiday for the two of us that doesn't include long road trips in noisy cars
I need some suggestions - the rules SWMBO has applied are as follows:
max flight duration 4.5 hours
must be warm, ie average daily temperature over 22 degrees
no too crowded
4 or 5 start hotel, preferably adults only
departure from Birmingham, Heathrow or Bristol at a push
No be somewhere we have been before, not North Africa
The places below we have been to already.
Mallorca
Croatia
Sardinia
Madeira
Cape Verde
South of France
Algarve
Costa Del sol
Costa Blanca
Venice
Northern Spain
Recommendations for decent hotels please, preferably close to the sea
Budget circa £5k for a week

On that criteria, then Cyprus or Canary Islands.

Malta
Radisson Malta Golden Sands
I was going to suggest this - we were in Malta in November last year for a client meeting and it was very warm. We’re going back to visit the same client in October this year, so I’m hoping to plan a few days holiday beforehand to relax and do some sightseeing.Radisson Malta Golden Sands
We had two weeks at the (Radisson) Social Hotel in Athens last October. Not sure if you are interested in history but we had a great time and used the buses, Metro and trams to get about. If you want the beach then take the Metro/bus to the coast which takes about 30 mins to Vougliameni where there is a municipal beach club which is cheap but has all the facilities and the more expensive Astir Beach Club.
I’m not sure you can avoid LHR but I took potluck on an hotel in Gallipoli in the heel of Italy one October- BA through Brindisi. Lovely and very warm.
Look at Siracusa in Sicily (through Catania), too. Especially if you want/need double tier points on BA. BA holidays have offers on at the moment.

Forgot to say on my list we have also done
Crete
Cyprus
Rhodes
That’s like saying you have “done” England. Crete takes three hours to drive from west to east. Crete

Rhodes
I’d still recommend Crete as it’s the most southern in the Med and therefore has a longer season than most. It’s also large enough that even multiple visits won’t cover the same ground.
