New York - in summer 4/5 nights

My wife has recently got VR and is waiting for her gardening leave to kick in. We've already got holidays booked for later in the year but she wants to go away to celebrate her VR and potential early retirement.

We'd previously discussed going to NYC as we both haven't been for decades, last time I was in NYC I was standing on top of the WTC that's how long it's been.

Given it's been THAT long can anyone suggest where to stay, what attractions to do/see etc assuming we go for 4-5 nights etc.

Following.....my wife has always wanted to go, and it is her 50th this November so I'm looking at taking her as a surprise for 4 nights (in November). I was there last in 1996!
