My GF is going in a few weeks with a girl friend, with the recent events in Haiti, is this something to worry about?
She is going to a resort at the furthest point of the island from Haiti, but does like to go out on trips etc, not just sitting by the pool.
Im sure it is fine, but having a land border does make me wander.

My FIL visited recently by way of a cruise stop and they had armed guards all day.
I wouldn’t personally book a trip at the moment; however, if it’s an all inclusive resort I can’t imagine they will have any problems. Not a place to go and take in the sights unescorted at the though.
Thanks for the input, i think its an all inclusive resort, so im sure they will be well looked after, its the trips to see the country im concerned about, no point going all that way and staying in a resort. Ive stayed in many not so safe places in the world, she hasnt tho and can sometimes be abit naive to risks, but im sure the hotel have things covered.I wouldn’t personally book a trip at the moment; however, if it’s an all inclusive resort I can’t imagine they will have any problems. Dom Rep != Haiti. Haiti's always had problems but they don't usually spill over except in people fleeing which are usually pretty well controlled in tourist areas so I wouldn't worry about it.She is going to a resort at the furthest point of the island from Haiti, but does like to go out on trips etc, not just sitting by the pool.

Dom Rep is pretty friendly and they try to take care of tourists as they contribute a lot to local economies.
Dom Rep isn't a small place, it's a good 10 hour drive from Santo Domingo to Puerto Plata (south coast to north coast), no idea where you're GF is going but chances are it's along the north coast where the tourist areas are and are pretty safe, well over 100KM from the Haitian border, which tends to get less well connected the closer you get to it.
