Corfu advice please?
Discussion
I fancy a change from my annual trip to Kefalonia this year and want to go to Corfu.
I would quite like to base in Corfu Old town, We could get to the beach and wander the streets, but Mrs M likes a pool.
So are there any good hotels in or near the town itself, or are there hotels that allow non-guests to use the pool assuming you're buying drinks and food?
Any other insights most welcome.

Love Corfu and have been loads of times over the past 15 years or so, it's my brother-in-law's go to destination, so caught the love of the place from him.
Personally I'd avoid Corfu Town as a place to stay, it's noisy, crowded and busy. Worth getting a bus for a day trip if you want to do a bit of shopping although getting the bus back from the bus station can be pretty chaotic.
We like the North West of the island, Palaiokastritsa. Lots of nice places to stay and lots of choice of great places to eat.
The crystal clear water is fantastic so it's always worth hiring a boat out and finding a deserted cove for an afternoon.

As above, I'd avoid Corfu Town. I'd also avoid Kavos too.
I've been a few times, the most notable of which was on a family holiday to Paxos. The ferry from Corfu goes past Kavos on the way to Paxos and there were two bright fluorescent cranes on the beach - one pink and the other lime green. It took me a while to work out that they were being used for Bungee jumping.
On the flight home, which was also from Corfu, the departure lounge was a sight to behold. It was rammed with 18-30s and a significant % of them were carrying some kind of injury - loads of black eyes, arms in slings, arms in plaster, legs bandaged etc. I guessed that it was a mix of fighting and falling off mopeds / scooters etc.
However, I am assured that it's nothing like that now, although Kavos is still a place to avoid.

We have been to Kassiopi up at the top of the Island for a few years, its got a lovely little Harbour and loads of Restaurants, and a Castle, last time we were there Alexander Armstrong was in a Nice Villa across the bay from us.. Also get some lovely views of Albania. https://www.themediterraneantraveller.com/kassiopi...
We went last summer and had a lovely airbnb in the old town. Contrary to other commenters, I wouldn't stay anywhere else. We love that it's noisy and busy in the evening, with lots of bars and restaurants to choose from. We had a car the whole time (it's only ten mins from the airport) and it's no problem to drive out in the day, but always nice to be near party town at night. Also right by the port if you fancy a boat trip somewhere.
I like Corfu Town and find it a great base to explore the island, however not many Hotels actually in the town. I've stayed a few times at the Corfu Palace Hotel, I've found it a really nice "old school" Hotel and the beauty of it is it has a nice pool and is in easy walking distance of the old town for the evenings.
Not the cheapest by a long stretch but it is quite nice.

I’d go North-East - Kassiopi, Agni, San Stefanos, etc.
Lovely little bays with nice restaurants (Taverna Agni and Toulas are both nice)

We are stopping in Agios Gordios later this year. Nice beach with seafood restaurants along it.
Kalami bay is nice though.
Also if you can get out on the water, get down to Sivota on the mainland. Gorgeous.
