Random one... the kids are quite into F1 and at Easter we'll be passing Silverstone on our way down south. As a kid I remember my dad driving straight in and a security guard letting us go and look at the track etc. Guess its not the same anymore! I know there is the museum but we'll have the dog in tow so I wondered whether there is anywhere you can just go and look at the track etc just as a quick break in the journey...

Was at the museum last weekend - It's quite good for a younger crowd, lots of hand on exhibits and engineering bits and bobs - Not a huge number of cars on display.

The £25 entry is a bit painful too!

Went to the national computer museum at Bletchley the next day and preferred that overall!

Sticking to silverstone though, depending on the day, you can pretty much drive straight in - The day I was there the event was ticketed but free, so worth checking the calendar.

if you're there over the easter weekend it looks like silverstone are doing trackdays on the national circuit on friday saturday and sunday. so, i'd rock up at the gate and whatever time, and say you're there to be a passenger at the trackday.

you'll be able to drive in the circuit and probably park in field at the national circuit, then you'd be free to go up on the banking on the inside of copse and watch the trackday cars - probably be some tasty stuff going round.

heck once you're in the circuit, you might be able to drive round the outer perimeter road... doubt the grandstands will be open but there are plenty of grass banks around!

heck if you're really forward and have a helmet, you might even be able to find someone willing to take you out on track as a passenger.

no idea about what'll happen with children and dogs though - leave them in the museum?!?

If it's like Oulton Park, they won't let you in with a dog. There's always security on the entrance gate just after the Bailey Bridge upon trying to enter at Oulton and I've been stopped with the dog in the car previously.

Cheers all. Other option is to detour via Caffeine & Machine for some lunch and see if theres anything interesting in the car park. Not checked if anything is on on Good Friday...
