Anyone have experience of getting to the Etihad campus from Manchester city centre using the trams?

Me and the missus are going to see the Eagles in concert at the new Coop Live arena in June and looking at staying at a city centre hotel the same night.

Will the tram be the easiest way to get there and back? If so, any hotels that are better placed than others for catching a tram?

We’ll be driving up from the Cotswolds on the day of the concert, so a hotel with parking, or a car park close by, would be preferred.

And before anyone suggests it, I will not be staying at the Hotel California… 😁

Thanks in advance

It'll be fine to get there. Trying to get a tram after the show will be a whole other thing. I'd just walk for half an hour then call an uber.

The tram to the campus runs about every 6-10 mins or so depending on time of day.
You can jump on at Castlefield, St Peters Square or Piccadilly Gardens.
Any of those 3 so you should have a stop near your hotel I would have thought.

You can also get on at Piccadilly station if you are that side of town.

Coming back I would be tempted to walk over to Eastlands and get a taxi as suggested above.
There is a McDonalds so you can always go in and have a brew or something I don't think its a 24/7 though so not sure what time you come out.

Don't be tempted to try and walk it back into Manchester, Braford Road and Ashton New are both high crime areas.

As above, years ago we went to gig at the Ethiad and getting the team out from the centre was no problem all. To be fair, I don't remember it being too bad getting it back into town either...

The tram will be jam-packed on the way back. On the "plus" side nobody seems to actually buy a ticket.... frown

You’ll be absolutely fine walking down ANR to Great Ancoats St and then down into the city along Newton St

There’ll be thousands of others doing exactly the same, there’s almost zero chance of getting robbed, it just isn’t an issue and the area around Eastlands isn’t high crime nor a violent crime hotspot

If you’re worried pre book and Uber to nearby or just get one of the many cabs that’ll be touting for business

But you’ll be fine smile

Echoing what Earthdweller says. As a frequent midweek match-goer to the Etihad; its quicker to walk from the area into the city than to wait with 10,000 others for a tram (and it'll probably be a single!).
There is the option of a walking route (citylink) from behind the squash centre-just across the bridge from the CO-OP) or alternatively down the canal bank under the same bridge. both routes take you into the centre.
Although you'll pass through some insalubrious areas you'll be in the company of several thousand others.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys. Much appreciated.

I’m sure SWMBO will want to take the easier option coming back so could we’ll be an Uber biggrin
