Potentially flashed by a speed camera in France
Discussion
Hello all.
I've searched PH and the web extensively for an answer to this one, but the only answer I can find (and I don't think quite related to this situation) is that I'll likely not hear anything.
Yesterday I was driving from Lille to Calais, and I may have been flashed by a camera on the Autoroute. I was following another car at a good distance, and the camera clearly flashed. It was difficult to tell, but I think the car in front of me had already passed it - if not it would have flashed when he was very close to it. I could comfortably count 4 seconds between seeing the flash and my vehicle passing the camera - I was travelling at 101km/h.
I - and my passenger - were sure that we were in a 110km/h section of road, but there's a chance it could have been 90km/h.
The thing is, since Brexit it appears that I likely won't hear anything further (I was in my own vehicle), BUT I want to visit France again, and I'd like to minimise any chance of being pulled to one side at customs and being asked to pay a large fine. Ideally, if I have been caught I'd like to pay the fine promptly.
Has anyone had a similar situation? Is there a way to check whether I was actually flashed (seems unlikely)?

First of all, bad luck.
I was flashed pre Brexit in the champagne region, by a camera which had caused uproar amongst French motorists, because of the fact that the camera was partially hidden and the speed suddnly decreased from 110kph to 70kph with no visible warning. There were hundreds of motorists being caught by it.
I tried to pay the fine online, but every time I tried, it said the fine had already been paid.
My best advice is to wait and see if you receive anything and then ask again on here.

I’d also be interested to see if there is a way to check European countries for outstanding tickets.
I did read since brexit we don’t share dvla data with Europe so they can’t track you down, but the possibility of getting pulled on a return record attempt, err, visit, does worry me a bit.
And do use Waze in future - it’s incredibly useful in France.

I pre-Brexit days I was flashed on two occasions in France and never heard anything after either of them. I was however chased for parking fines in Ireland and in the Netherlands.
ETA: I drove in France, in the same car, many times in the following years.

This is what worries me - I don't really care about the fine.I did read since brexit we don’t share dvla data with Europe so they can’t track you down, but the possibility of getting pulled on a return record attempt, err, visit, does worry me a bit.

I was using Waze - which on the whole was great - but it didn't get every limit right and agrees with me in that I was under the speed limit at this particular time!
Having recently done Lille to Calais weekly for a few months, my recollection of northbound fixed radars on the A28 and A16 is
- A28 in Lille roadside radar 70 km/h
- A28 coming out of Lille central reservation 110 km/h
- A28 between Bergues and Dunkirk roadside 110 km/h
- A16 Dunkirk Centre roadside 90 km/h
- A16 Calais Centre (if going to the tunnel) central reservation 90 km/h

Its an interesting situation.
I have freinds here in France (I live here) that have been to the UK in their French registered cars and been pursued relentlessly for congestion charge and ULEZ infringements once they got home.
I am guessing that the French must be giving theses companies the addresses etc, but I have never heard of the UK giving this data to the French about UK cars speeding (well, not since Brexit).

I drive to Spain pretty often and as such travel through France as frequently.
It might be paranoia, but if I know I've been getting on it and flashed, then I swap plates before the next visit. I'd rather throw £250 at DVLA than give it to French police.
Seizing vehicles isn't unheard of for very excessive speed, but for 10 or 20kph over I'd be amazed if it would cause any problems.

Assuming the OP was driving a UK registered vehicle he/she will hear nothing further. DVLA have stopped dobbing us in.
In the unlikely event that the OP receives a ticket, file it in the bin. I have never been stopped at arrival in Dieppe and asked/ordered to pay for previous transgressions.
The above does NOT apply to a French registered hire car!

Well from a bit of research and using the very helpful link further up this thread, it seems that the camera I passed should be set at 110kph. I know exactly what speed I was doing, and I should be well under.
I note that this camera is set at 90kph for commercials, so perhaps a lorry around me set it off.

A slightly amusing coincidence...
We received a ticket today....
....from Glasgow city council for a bus lane infringement 😂😂😂
The car was actually parked in Chantilly train station near Paris at the time 😂
Simply a case of a dirty numberplate and someone not actually checking the difference between an Audi A1 & a Seat Alhambra.
