Help needed please. Got some shows booked in June and would like to know the best station to get a hotel at so we can then get tube into London. London hotel prices are ridiculous so am sure it would be cheaper to stay on the outskirts and then get the tube in. Am travelling from York. Hope someone can advise.
Will depend on your dates but check out

We have an office in Clerkenwell and often use this hotel - normally around £130-160 a night. Clean & modern & well located for Farringdon station / Elizabeth line to get to Tottenham Court Road. If you go for it my tip is get breakfast in the cafe next door 21west, does a lovely breakfast.

If you don't mind something a bit quirky have a look at Citizen M, they have some decent deals. The one at Tower Bridge is right next to a tube.Shrugging for victory said:
Have a look at apartments on Booking.com, etc, as I've generally found them to be a lot cheaper than the hotels.
This. Plenty of apartment websites - even Airbnb. Not only are they cheaper but who wants to be stuck in a hotel room, sitting on the bed with no facilities? You can also save a lot of money if you have a proper kitchen. Hotels are OK for one night (or more if you are paying the money and staying at Claridges or somewhere where the hotel is part of the break) but any longer and an apartment is far preferable, certainly when I'm working away in London.Premier Inn Clerkenwell is a good shout, not far from Kings Cross where you will arrive from York.
Tower Hotel another good shout, if further away.
We sometimes put people up at the Travelodge in Vauxhall. It's basic but v handy for the tube and rail, 10mins tube ride from Kings Cross, and pretty close to the west end.
Wouldn't want to stay there for more than a day or two though, good on a budget but it is not an 'experience' kind of place;)

We find hotel prices to be all over the shop in London, even with the same hotels. I would recommend our first choice of The Bailey's next to Gloucester Road tube station (on the Circle, District and Piccadilly Lines) and near some cafes for breakfast but we paid £160 for a night a few Saturdays ago but it's £240 for June and £350 for July!!
