All UK schools will be on holiday the first week of April so understand there's unlikely to be massive bargains, but what's the best strategy for this, books something now or wait until right up to the day? Solo adult, happy to book a package or flight and accommodation separately. doesn't care where he goes as long as he can swim in the sea, also not the end of the world if he waits for a bargain and it doesn't happen.

Where will the cheapest flights be going to?

edit - finding three nights in Spain/Portugal/Ibiza/Majorca etc for around £300 inc flights, depending on the day of departure (sometimes even goes up to £500 the following day!), half thinking of just booking something now, doubt it's going to get much cheaper than that no? Possibly Ryanair flights but I might just have to hold my nose and hope they're on time.

Go to Skyscanner, select you departure airport, set destination to everywhere, select the week you want and then take your pick!

Do prices tend to dip a day or two before departure, or is that not really a thing anymore?

Or use Google Flights

I prefer it over SkyScanner these days

Easier to use and you can get a map of destinations and prices etc...

No. Prices are definitely on the rise, this year.

Ryanair tend to be the cheapest but tend to threaten separate seats for two people if you don't pay £40 for the seat selection. Easyjet don't tend to do this if you skip seat selection. However, Ryanair have utterly sh*t flight times.

I've booked 3 holidays this year between February and May and have paid between 220 and 254 for the pair of us, for returns to Fuerteventura, Tenerife and Alicante but you do have to keep an eye on the prices via Skyscanner and bite when you're happy as sometimes you delay and bam, they fly up to over 400.

On Easyjet, you can see the days where flights are cheaper and mix and match them. So, for example, on the Fuerteventura flights, it was well over £400 from our normal Wednesday to Wednesday but going Monday to Monday brought that down to £253 (booked January).

Harder work but if you have booking dot com open as well, yiou can pair up the accommodation and flights as some desinations have apartments that cost far more so a cheap flight is only half of it.

I like the Canaries as the car hire tends to be cheap, quick and easy wheras mainland Spain is a pain in the butt unless you like arguing excesses with over-zealous staff.

As others have suggested use Skyscanner (my preference) or other search engines like Google flights.

Assuming your wanting Europe then for the cheapest options overall you will need to think away from the usual spots and fly to somewhere like Albania. It's about as cheap as it gets for Europe and one of the hottest countries in the region.

The likes of Tenerife will likely be warmer at that time of year but you will pay a much higher flight cost, I still see £40 return flights to Albania when Croatia is £150 on the same dates.

I spent a couple of days/nights in Albania in 2021 as part of an off-road bike rallye from Greece to Croatia, and can confirm that large parts of it are an utter sh!thole! I did get one of my favourite-ever biking pics tho, somewhere above Lake Ohrid, which I'll share here just for the sake of it:
