Hi,

This is something of a first world question but could I ask how much we should leave our chalet hosts as a tip?

We are two families of 12 adults in an entry level catered chalet in Val D’Isere. Catering has been fine. No additional housekeeping really but they’ve organised a couple of ski lessons.

We have been easy guests letting them have a late start New Years day and no real demands.

Have heard anything from £10-20 per guest to £50-100 per
Guest! We were thinking £100 per family plus some unopened gin and vodka.

Would appreciate any input!

Thanks

Assuming there’s two staff I’d have been very happy with that back in my day (adjusted for significant inflation!). Remember some aholes will leave nothing, so anything more than “a drink” should go down well at that level.

Yes, 2 staff. Thanks, that’s helpful.

What I'd do to be in Val D'Isere right now - give my regards to Le Petit Danois!

It's a few years since I've been, but my group (16 blokes) used to leave about €10 per guest, with people bumping it a bit more if they felt like it. Chalet staff seemed happy with that.

This as for your boggo standard Crystal chalet inhabited by people on relatively normal salaries back home, not Powerfully Built Company Directors hiring out somewhere bling via Scott Dunn

.... never tipped Crystal chalet staff. I'm not American. Already paid for my holiday.

I used to work hosting ski groups in North America and even there I dind't expect anything.

Thanks. Also v helpful. Sounds like we might be being a bit generous then but we’ve had a great week and a hundred euros in the overall cost of the holiday isn’t much at all
