I have a 9 hour stopover in Doha (Hamad International Airport) in a few weeks' time en route to the Far East. This is in the middle of the night (local time) but early evening UK time so I'll likely be buzzing.

Is it worth going through Qatari immigration (I understand UK passport holders don't need a visa), grabbing an Uber into the middle of Doha, going for a wander in the small hours to get a feel of the place, then taking an Uber back to the airport when it's time to go through security for my next flight?

Will anything be open between the hours of midnight and 8am local?

How readily available are Ubers?

I've never been so would welcome some advice. I'm not really inclined to hang around the airport for 9 hours and I can sleep on the flight.

It will take you 9 hours to get from gate to terminal.
I hate Doha.

Depending on your fare class you may be eligible for that at Qatar airways expense?

I’ve heard there’s not much to do overnight but that’s not my experience of Arab cultures generally, they tend to be night owls and rest during the day.

Take an uber to Souq Waqif you’ll easily waste a good few hours there. UBER will be £6

I would get an Uber to the Sheraton, the Irish harp is open until 2am (https://www.irishharpdoha.com/) couple of beers there and then walk the Corniche.

I really enjoyed my times there in Doha and the Corniche is usually buzzing well gone midnight.

In my experience (I've been half a dozen times) it's not worth the bother.

The souq is nice to wander round but not at that time of night, it'll basically be closed.

Qatar isn't the liveliest of places at any time let alone in the wee small hours.
