is there anywhere now with a Bureau de Change that will actually change a few hundred quid in cash to some euros or has it all been stopped because we are all drug dealers ?

Most Post Office counters offer this.

Airports have at least one

I swapped some USD cash into EUR cash last week and they insisted taking copies of some ID and typing loads of things into the computer, even for a couple of hundred's worth.

Bit of a faff TBH, and turned what I thought would be a pretty much instant transaction into a ten minute chore.

Any BdC will do it but will require ID as an anti money laundering measure.

That said it's worth checking around and comparing rates and charges as there can be quite a difference in the number of Euros the same amount of Sterling will get you - https://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/

Supermarkets though this year I realised you can get much better rates in Benidorm and Lanzarote, for example, than Tesco offer.

Though I take cash, I rarely use it as I use a Chase card which allows you to pay in whatever currency at the prevailing rate ( Halifax Clarity with no fees as backup).

Post office is usually the easiest

Check what your bank charges to just withdraw cash at a cash machine, there will be one at the airport somewhere once you land and it may be less than the post office exchange fees. If you're doing it a lot consider a Revolut or similar account where you can transfer money from £ to € in the account and then withdraw for free.

Aye, but if you have Scottish notes they may not take them or offer a sttier rate, that being said, I can’t remember the last time I took money with me, normally just use an ATM abroad to take money out from my Revolut card, if I need cash.

Supermarkets will also change cash without ID under £500 - allegedly.
