There should be a sticky for this.
For both Heathrow and Gatwick - use the official parking. It really is THAT simple. Book in advance (the longer the better) for the best prices.
And go through a cashback website of your choosingFor both Heathrow and Gatwick - use the official parking. It really is THAT simple. Book in advance (the longer the better) for the best prices.
Edit: and join Heathrow rewards and collect the points on it

But it's stupidly expensive these days. Often cheaper to get a taxi.

I agree. We live 30 minutes down the A4 from Heathrow, so it’s a taxi every time.
Even considering using a taxi to and from Gatwick next time, when a two weeks take your keys deal is about £330 !!! Our local taxi firm will do it for £295. Then I can have a drink on the flight, then relax and have kip on the M25, especially if we arrive back at stupid o’clock.
There is nothing worse than arriving back, tired, knackered, then getting into a cold car and driving for an hour or more.

I can get a direct train to Gatwick, usually under £40 return if I get the tickets far enough in advance. Tales longer than driving though.
We live Mid/West Surrey and about equidistant Heathrow and Gatwick. Whenever we need to go to either airport, we use the same local executive car company for transportation, usually a nice Mercedes saloon. The journey is typically 30-40 minutes. The cost is the same to either airport. Recently we went to/from Gatwick and the total cost was £150. This included the journey there and back, airport drop off fee, car park for the return pick up, and tip. Although it depends on the length of being away, this compares well with the airports' official parking charges, so we consider our choice of transport method a no brainer decision.

If you're close enough a taxi is great but us rural types have no other option. (Although my SiL is 15 minutes from Gatwick which is handy.)
Thinking about it as we're flying from Heathrow soonish, I think nothing of £50 for a weekend, but resent the £187 (IIRC) quoted for a fortnight!?!

We used purple parking last month, I think it was around the £100 mark for the week. It was around the same cost to get an Uber there and back, but way more convenient to take our car.
I hate the idea of going to bed the night before a flight hoping the Uber driver is going to turn up at 6:00am
