Ryanair wrecked our child seat and won’t compensate
Discussion
Had the misfortune of flying Ryanair this week. We checked in a car seat which came out the other side dropped and torn, with the inner padding broken/compromised.
Submitted a claim after reporting at the airport, but because it’s 4 years old they immediately rejected the claim because of its age and associated depreciation.
Problem is, as the car seat has been clearly dropped it’s no longer safe to use and most likely needs to be written off, and it’s annoying they won’t put be back in the position I was in before they (well the baggage handlers) wrecked the seat.
Appreciate it’s probably one to chalk up to experience, but curious if anyone has ever claimed successfully or whether there’s another route I can go down before I give up? Car seat is worth £80 or so, so not a massively expensive one, but out of principle I’m not ready to give up quite yet.

Take the ####### to small claims. Just treat is as a life experience if you’ve not done it before….. Waits for the just suck it up crowd….Submitted a claim after reporting at the airport, but because it’s 4 years old they immediately rejected the claim because of its age and associated depreciation.

I think there's a good argument that no one would buy a second hand car seat so depreciation is irrelevant. You had an intact seat you knew the history of and now you don't.
I suspect you'll get absolutely nowhere though, but good luck!
Yup that is my argument, but I suspect the same sadly. To be honest I’d accept a contribution but I’m amazed at this stage they are simply saying ‘sorry for the inconvenience, but we’re giving you nothing’. I suspect you'll get absolutely nowhere though, but good luck!

So it wasn’t Ryanair who wrecked your child seat, it was the baggage handlers at the airport……
Does your travel insurance not cover this?
Ryanair are the ones responsible/liable, they are the ones I’ve contracted with, irrespective if it was the baggage handlers who caused the damage. Travel insurance has an excess hence trying to get Ryanair to do the right thing (unlikely) given the size of the claim.Does your travel insurance not cover this?
