Hi, has anyone had to deal with Goldcar getting a refund? Here is my tale of woe.

Book a car on Expedia using Goldcar in Italy.
On Expedia I use my shortened name (just 2 letters off the end) for the booking as I do with everything else.
Get to the rental desk and they will not give me the car because the booking name does not match my driving license and passport, which is the full name.
Nowhere on the Expedia site does it say the name has to exactly match.
I contact Expedia support, they can't do anything except request a refund from Goldcar.
As we needed a car, I take one out directly with Goldcar at the desk, best they can do is £200, double original booking.

It's been 11 days since the refund request and I hadn't heard anything back. Contacted Expedia again and all they can do is resend the email requesting a refund.

Has anyone had experience/success with something like this? Personally I think it should be Expedia giving me a refund but I'm giving them a chance before going off on one.

Can't you just get a refund on the credit card?

Doesn't mention using a credit card, probably on a debit card.

I’m not convinced that argument will hold water, as it’s standard practice to use your full name for car hire where insurance is included.

The CC company might be able to help, as the theory is that you get refunded if you didn’t receive the goods or services. But if refund process has already started you might have to now wait for it to conclude.

Sadly you do seem to have missed the first rule of car hire:
Do not use Goldcar.....

Your profile doesn't accept emails. PM me your Expedia itinerary number. Long 14 digit number starting with a 7.

That. From what I’ve read, not personal experience.

That’s the second rule, the first is not to use Greenmotion, literally the only provider that excess insurers will not cover.

It was on Amex so will go down that route if nothing happens in the next few days. Like I said if it had mentioned about the name matching on Expedia I would have got my driving license out to double check, but it doesn't say anything. I don't rent cars very often so wasn't to know.
