I've been once for a blurry weekend 30 yrs ago but always fancied going back.

We've 2 dogs so we'll rent a house with a garden, and like cutesy Harbour towns, walking to pubs beaches and stuff. Edge of town, parking and sea views, direct access to beach coast path a bonus.

Which Angelsey towns should we look at?

I'd stay in Rhosneigr but be prepared to travel around the place as there's a bit to see. Sandy Mount House & Mojo's are good for food/drinks in the village too. You can also watch the RAF training flights come in & out from the beach here.

I can recommend breakfast/lunch at The Boathouse in Red Wharfe Bay.

A walk along the beach at Traeth Llanddwyn can be stunning if the weather is decent.

My parents have lived in Llandonna, but above Red Wharf Bay, for 23 years.

Before they got really old they used to walk across the bay to the Boat House, have lunch and stagger back, before the tide changed.

They took me there in August. Was decent enough.

I used to take my Nan to The Buckley in Beaumaris for afternoon tea. (You really need to book at weekends)

My wifes favourite bit of Ynys Mon is Penmon Point Light house. I've done a bit of boldering on the rocks nearby with the tide in, knowing that if I fell, I'd get quite wet.

I was about to ask a similar question as my sister has friends on Anglesey and is always banging on about how we should go there.

Ideally we'd like a ground floor flat with a sea view, somewhere near to shops, cafes, restaurants plus a beach and harbour. Think St Ives or Tenby and you get the picture. Haven't found such a place yet.

Maybe Abersoch?

I had a cottage close to the beach in Rhosneigr over the summer. Enjoyed the break, RAF base on the beach, behind dunes so prepare for some noise between 8-5 ish on weekdays.

Beach was lovely, Oyster Catcher restuarant was our fav. Pizza shop not that nice tbh. Nice highstreet with interesting things - clothes, arts, cafe, ice cream.

Beaumaris was also very nice but much busier. I would consider Beaumaris next time though.

Rhosneigr:

Beaumaris

Abersoch isn't on Anglesey but is lovely although very 'Cheshire' sadly. I'd suggest Trearddur Bay for all the above but also any of the other villages really. Anglesey's small enough to travel around and catch it all - plenty of lovely places to visit. Llanddwyn never stops taking my breath away.

Unfortunately it is more 'Cheshire on Sea' nowadays. It's basically Alderley Edge, Wilmslow in Wales.

Scouse Riviera is Rhyl and Prestatyn lol ;-)

Thanks chaps, we'll look for a cottage in beaumaris. Looks like it'll be sheltered from poor weather too.

I’d agree that Beaumaris would be ideal for the OP. Along with all the other suggestions I’d add visiting Rhoscolyn for a walk round the headland and Borth Wen to the south, plus lunch at the excellent White Eagle.

It’s interesting to see the comments about Abersoch - yes, it’s very Cheshire, but it’s a great village with lovely beaches and plenty of nice shops and places to eat. It’s perfect for families.

Poor old Holyhead gets a bad press. Yes, the town centre is depressing but outside of that it's actually pretty nice. Newry Beach, the country park, South Stack, Porthdafarch beach to Trearddur Bay are all worth a visit.

As mentioned above, Llanddwyn Island is a must for breathtaking views. Check the tide tables and go when the tide is receding.

I live on Anglesey and can't believe no one has mentioned visiting the race track (Anglesey circuit) and the car museum (Tacla Taid). You could also go for a walk around Newborough forest and even visit what must be the most photographed Volvo garage in the world in: llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch

I agree with the comments about Beaumaris but Menai Bridge is also quite nice. You could take a power boat road down the Menai Straits from Menai Bridge or a leisurely ride from Beaumaris to puffin island.

Plas Newydd and Penrhyn castle are also worth a visit if you like National Trust properties.

I'd avoid the bigger places (like Bangor and Holyhead) but there are plenty of little places to visit. Cemaes bay is a good shout along with Treardur bay, Rhosneiger.

If your willing to leave Anglesey Caernarfon is only over the bridge and it's worth a visit (stay around the castle and lower end of town). Llanberis is also nice and the watersports store will rent paddle boards if you can brave the cold water! Betws y Coed is worth a visit and you can drive some great driving roads (There's also a huge outdoor go kart track a short drive from Betws y Coed). Zip world have a zip line in Bethesda which is good fun but a bit pricey.
