Cape Nidhra in Hua Hin is v.nice ... a skypool suite I would recommend and its directly opposite one of the night markets and a short walk into the centre or down towards one of the shopping malls too ... close to the beach as well (though the beaches in the western gulf aren't the greatest - you'll need an island for those)

Book a flight and hotel separately.
Look at booking .com and hotels official website for best price, tripadvisor is handy to get an overview.
One suggestion is return flight to Phuket go to north Khaolak which is about 1-1.5 hours away in a taxi and £30 each way. Plenty of choice of hotels and chilled. If you like peace and quiet can recommend a family run hotel where you have your own bungalow for between £70-100 a night. Being able to ride a scooter is handy but not essential as you can get taxis or a songthaew (not sure I spelt that right)
But if you want busy then a return flight to Krabi and grab a taxi to Aonang which is about 30 minutes journey.
But where ever you go you need to book soon as all the best accommodation gets booked out early.

There are not a lot of options for flights at the moment, you will do well got get under £750ppn return.

If anywhere near xmas it will be a premium +30% at least. If you are near LHR then there are more choices but out in the regions you will really be looking at Emirates. Maybe Qatar airways.

Although you could consider flying on xmas day, thats usually "normal" prices.

Have a gander at Finair too, they have some deals I very nearly booked a business class flight with them to BKK from HEL but I could not stomach the 23 hour layover regardless of how cheap it was.

Look at flights different times of day etc.
Fly Tuesday or Wednesday as usually cheaper!
Don’t give up the flights might be costly but it’s cheap once out there compared to other destinations.
But late December and early January most expensive time to go, if you can go later in January much better

Not sure where you are flying from but are you using Sky scanner and going on the monthly view. Plenty in Jan for around £500 pp. Manchester to BKK around the £600 mark. Or are you looking at going right after say Christmas day?

True but its still very chilled at the moment as still in Covid recovery and quite a contrast to Phuket - but getting better.

Don't bother with taxis - pick up a rental car at Phuket airport - its normally around £20 a day max. Then you can drive to Krabi, Khao Lak etc and explore the whole of Phuket without having to interact with taxis at all. Petrol a quid a litre too!

For my 50th, Mrs F booked a two-week trip in Jan/Feb 2020, just before the Covid scare.
She booked it through Trailfinder, recommended through her sister. Both were very impressed with the advice given and the fact you could call them and chat about your individual needs.
We flew into Bangkok, stayed there for 2/3 nights, then flew to Khao Lak, stayed there a week, then was driven into Elephant Hills for the remainder of the holiday.

Dont do Phuket unless you one of "those" types.

The flight to Thailand is pricey, but everything else is cheap. Bangkok, Chiang Mai and then an Island (in this area stay off the mainland like Krabi, Phuket etc).

I would love to know what one of those types is.

Phuket has so much to see and do,Old town Phuket is nothing like Bang La road.
Thailand is still cheaper than Europe and many other places but it aint as cheap as it used to be,that’s for sure.

So would I! I travel to Phuket regularly and enjoy the beaches, scenery and the relaxed vibe (excluding Patong).

I flew on Xmas day a few years ago and it was half regular price (return). You have to plan to allow for the lack of trains etc. Went on Xmas Eve and stayed at the premiere inn at Heathrow.

Phuket.... There is SO much better to be had all over Thailand.

One of the best holidays we had was at The Cape Panwa Hotel on Phuket. We even flew TUI premium club direct, London-Phuket. I would definitely recommend that hotel, we had a perfect stay.

This was about five years ago, I’m amazed to see how much prices have gone up, particularly booking direct flights separately, TUI direct prices are ridiculous. How ever if you book a package holiday with them to Phuket the price is sensible. BUT ! You fly to Hong Kong, change, then on to Phuket.

How cheap was it out of interest? I flew BC with Finnair 2 years ago. Pre-covid prices, £3800 for two, from LHR, changing at Helsinki - was the best BC flight I've ever experienced.

They want more like £6500 now, so we are going direct with Eva this year, premium economy, £3400 for two.

Today its showing as £2300 (2pax) each way for BC on cheap days. MAN>BKK via HEL.
But its a 20+hr layover in HEL if you time it wrong.

You also need to add on lounge access. Etc.
