Hotel for weekend away - Cotswolds or Peak District?
Discussion
Anyone got any suggestions for a nice hotel for a night or two away from home next month?
I don’t want to take hours getting there from just south of Birmingham, so somewhere in the Cotswolds, or maybe the Peak District?
A decent restaurant on site or within walking distance for Saturday evening and Sunday lunch is good, and a pool would be a bonus but not essential. Having something interesting to do in the local area is also a plus, hence those ideas but open to others.
Definitely looking for a step up from a travelodge, but couldn’t justify paying £4-500 a night.

also a good shout. though i don't make their in-house beer We recently stayed at the Courthouse at Shelsley Walsh. It's right at the bottom of the hillclimb. Very plush, the food and wine was amazing, stunning scenery and they do deals that include a days hire of a Morgan plus 4. Nice pub about 3 mile drive away if you fancy something simpler to eat.
We stayed there on a race weekend, was pretty cool wandering round the paddock chatting to the hillclimb drivers as they arrived on the Friday night. Could see them going up the hill from our bedroom windows.

Harder to find than you might think though.

We stayed in the cotswold house hotel in chipping Camden, although probably about 5 yrs ago now! Time flies.
Nice smaller hotel with a lovely little spa. On the high street with some good restaurants and pubs , some decent walks nearby and obviously easy enough to visit the other cotswold villages

You will need deep pockets for the last two mentioned. Way above the OP's budget I suspect.
I doubt you'll get much change out of £400 at Cotswold House Hotel on a weekend either but the OP appears keen.Plus, as is often the way, there’s a difference between what I could afford to spend and what I could justify spending.

Cheaper but no Spa.
I tend to book hotels and spas separately, as it's very rare in my experience, that a single venue will have everything you want, when you want it and for the right price.

Oakham one side Stamford the other, lots of good places to eat in the towns and the restaurant at the hotel was good when I ate there earlier this year.
