My passport expires in March next year, so I have to renew fairly quickly.

Can I do it online?

I have downloaded an app called Smartphone iD Photo identite, has anyone used it?

Any advice, glad of it.

There's a search engine called Google

You might have heard of it?

Done it recently, using the website, don't think I had to download anything.

It was surprisingly simple and efficient. Got my new passport back after around 3 weeks and they share status of things as the application progresses.

So long as you get a picture, that they can access electronically, it is simple. We used the booth in the Post Office which gives then a code that you put on your application and send off.

We did ours and they were back in 10 days including the weekend, superb service and the old ones returned a week later.

Yes if it's a simple renewal and wil be quite quick to boot.

Photos can also be done online at home via the .gov site and will give you an indication of whether it will be accepted or not. (Bright on plain background avoiding shadows and you're golden).

No need to use third party websites and the .gov website is a breeze to use and shouldn't take more than around ten minutes for a simple renewal.

Did ours a while back and had them back within 10 days.

You MUST return your old passport first before they'll even start processing and recorded signed for post is recommended.

Definitely avoid any weirdo third party apps, which are probably going to either try to charge you extra money to renew your passport or at worst nick your info - just use the official website, it's pretty straightforward.

I had a few issues with it rejecting photos I had taken, but after a bit of messing about with better lighting we got there. Alternatively just use a digital photo booth kiosk - most towns will have one.

Timpsons do a photo to suit the PP office, three copies given plus a file name that the pp people can access online.

Very quick return for me when I used it, don’t understand why timpsons don’t advertise they do this.

I renewed mine recently but got my local Post Office to do it all for me. By the time I'd factored in the cost of sending my old passport back/taking photos, etc. it worked out the same. Plus if something went wrong I had a point of contact to moan at. Went smoothly and had my new one within threee weeks.

Done it online, take a picture using smart phone against a light background and upload that. The website will tell you if its likely to be accepted or not.

I used the PO digital click and send for mine and my daughter's renewal too. Yeah, a small £16 fee on top, but it took 15-20 mins and the PO arranged everything. My daughters renewal took the longest / 2 weeks to receive the passport, but only because my witness took 4 days to confirm my daughter.
Totally stressfree process with a clear audit trail viewable on the Gov website. Highly recommended.

Applied for my kids first passports recently as US citizens.

The effort was minimal with the only exception being a requirement for a friend to confirm they exist.. I took photos of them against a white wall with my iPhone. Once the documents I had to send in were in hand they were processed same day or next business day. Oddly, my daughter's passport was processed without copies of her existing (US) passport but they required them for my son. This added a delay as it took 6 weeks for the docs to ship to the UK.

Completed the online form yesterday (Saturday), bit of a struggle getting the second photo to upload - don't know why. Old passports (his and hers) in envelopes ready for posting on Monday.

Renewed my 2nd passport online last month and was back within 2 weeks, used the link for pics from photobooth on the online form, sent off old passport ,employer letter & scans of current passport in use (just needed for 2nd passport).

I think what time of year you renew helps as well.
