Not using hotel for entire period of a package holiday
Discussion
We are looking at a multi-center trip to Thailand next year. Current packages for 2 weeks in Bangkok are showing at £1500pp in economy or £2500pp in premium economy with 14 nights in a good hotel. We want to have some time in BKK and then move on to other destinations.
Anyone have experience of not using up your entire hotel?

We did this in BKK in around 2015 - not part of a package deal, but we booked a hotel individually about 5 minutes walk from Kho San Road. We stayed there for a couple of nights, then went up to Phi Phi for two nights, leaving our big suitcases and just taking stuff we could actually load onto the boat to the island.
We told the hotel before we left, which they were fine with, and got back two days later and all our stuff was still there.
Probably worth checking with the hotel, but I can't see them having too much of an issue. You're still paying for the room, which they won't have to clean or provide any other services whilst you're away.

Did similar many years ago in Cuba.
The package deal was cheaper than just standalone flights.
Stayed a few nights in the hotel then went to various other places for a week and came back to hotel for the last few nights (14 night trip)
Told the hotel what we were doing and all was fine.

I’ve done it many years ago. Went for two weeks to Portugal the flights were a bit steep for when we wanted to go and needed to add a hotel or apartment, but found a package holiday that was considerably cheaper for flight and board.
The apartment was on a complex in Albufeira (we wanted to be in Lagos where we had friends) but it was ok, clean, comfortable, swimming pool, bar etc. we stayed for a few days then went off to Lagos to another rental apartment owned by some locals and recommended by our friends, and cheap too right in the centre of town.
So the booked Albufeira apartment was empty for most of the two weeks. We came back to It for the last night so we could be collected by the coach in the morning.

When I was travelling for business if the time away was less than 5 nights my secretary sometimes booked a flight/hotel deal as it was cheaper than flight only. Sometimes I used the hotel for all nights, sometimes for some & sometimes none at all (although I checked in & out). Never had a problem on probably more than a dozen such trips.
