The Belgian Coast (De Panne, Ostend, Knokke-Heist etc)
Discussion
Now then Comrades,
Does anyone have any experience of the Belgian coastal towns?
I have the idea it would be amusing to walk along from Dunkerque across Belgium into the Nether Lands, stopping regularly for some refreshing beverages and chips with too much mayonnaise, along with whatever cultural delights are en route.
It would probably be around the end of March to use up the remaining week of holiday allowance I have for this financial year.
It seems there is a seafront footpath most of the way, plus a tram line, which I viewed when I visited the Atlantic Wall museum at Ostend earlier this year when on a trip around the WW1 western front.
I've been to Bruges before (which could be a good endpoint of the walk), and stopped for discounted cigarettes in Adinkirke but am otherwise unfamiliar with the region.

Yes you can walk pretty much all the way along and then get the tram back.
Oostend is probably the biggest town but the last place we stayed in was nieuwpoort and we had probably one of the best waffles i've ever had.
There’ll be others who are local or more familiar, but FWIW I’ve stopped over a few times in various places on my way elsewhere over the years. Out of season, some of these places are every bit as sleepy as British coastal towns at the same time of year.
The coastal walks can be great but many sections are very exposed. In March, I’d be advising you to wrap up warmly and take plenty of Neutrogena lip salve etc as the North Sea can be brutal: those glass/plastic windbreaks in every cafe on the coast exist for very good reasons!

Good point, it looks like Easter is the very end of March next year, and I assume is the traditional 'start of the season' as it is in UK seaside towns.I'd just be walking for its own sake, so can easily hop onto the tram (or into a bar) if the weather is too poor.
