(Small town west of Luxembourg, Kleinbettingen).

Google suggests two routes, either via Reims or via Brussels

Reading another thread reccently suggested Belgium driving isn't the best, would it be better through France? For the sake of 30mins?

Thanks.

I used to go the French route when we lived in lux.

Tendency for traffic around Brussels

Can't get a much better answer than someone who's lived it!

Thanks, I think I'll try and make the satnav use that route.

I've done a bit of reading, but can't seem to work out if winter tyres are required (Nov 24th to Dec 4th)

There’s quite a bit of work ongoing on the Brussels ring at the moment - avoid if you can. Plus Belgian driving can be a bit, er, special.

The route via Lille goes nowhere near Brussels ,I use that route to get to Germany .

I prefer it as it's toll free ,unlike via Reims .

True it doesn't. How bad is the Belgium driving?

We just spent a week in Sluis and were driving around the locality and didn't notice anything noteworthy or worrying. But of course that was only a tiny slice.

I've found a lot of Belgium drivers to be the most ignorant drivers I've come across when driving abroad, lacking lane discipline, pulling out without indicating, dont know how to say thank you if you let them out of junctions etc etc

I have just come back from Switzerland via Luxembourg to Dunkirk.
Used the Lille route no problem at all.
I have no issues with Belgium drivers, the worst drivers in Europe in my opinion are the English.
It helps the traffic density is so much lower in most of Europe.
Fuel in Luxembourg is cheaper than anywhere else in Europe. It’s also the same price at every fuel station.

This.

And while they might do the odd strangely stupid thing, Belgian autoroute driving is still an order of magnitude better than what you will see in the uk. In relative terms it’s bliss.
