I'm taking my missus away for her 50th at the end of October and fancy a bit of warmth without too much flight time.

I've got flights booked, just need to get a hotel and things to see/do, and transport form airport to hotel.

I have never been to Madrid before, so looking for recommendations.

Looking for hotels in the £150/night range.

Prado museum is worth a look (and free in the evenings whilst waiting for the restaurants to open), Toledo is a short train ride away for a bit of history, eat tapas in the Plaza Mayor, stadium tour of the Bernabeu? Depends what you like to do.

I went for the first time with work recently and stayed at the Hotel Catalina des Cortes. It’s in the old town near a pleasant plaza which has a few restaurants and a great roof top bar. It should be in budget and was smart enligh to work for a birthday weekend.

Thanks Guys,
I'll have a look about and see what hotels are in my price range. Presume anywhere in the city centre is a good area.
Bernabeu is a good shout, will look into booking a tour for that.

Have a look at Plaza Mayor and Puerto del Sol, but for eating head towards Plaza de Santa Ana and the small streets off it. Retiro park will be lovely that time of year for a walk and time to relax. Terraza Cibeles is a nice spot for some evening drinks. It’s an amazing city so enjoy.

Madrid is a fabulous city.

As always it depends what you like. In addition to the above great suggestions, if it's vibrancy and energy you're after, the gay & Malasana districts north of the Gran Via metro station are fantastically urban and youthful.

You can get lost up the narrow streets full of tiny tapas places and bars as you head up to C de Colon (no, that's not a joke). Bodega de la Ardosa is a good example of what's there. Snug, mainly standing, really busy, noisy, you'll probably have to queue, makes you feel alive smilehttps://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g1...

Have a great time smile

Cheers guys,

I will book a hotel over the weekend using you're recommendations, and then plan what to do over the three days we are there.
