Taking my better half to Nice in November for her birthday for 3 nights. Does anyone have any experience of great restaurants & bars in the city?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

Comptoir du Marche is a favourite of mine, though very "normal" and not at all fancy or flash. La Voglia for big glasses of wine and huge bowls of pasta - then sit and people watch. Wayne's for live music and dancing on the tables.

Others may offer more refined selections, but that's probably my ideal day in Nice.

For lunch I like Da Acchiardo. Its in the old town near the cathedral so you can enjoy a nice wander before / after.
Its not crazy expensive but it is a bit touristy given where it is.
The food is very good and quite traditional, a decent lunch with a couple of glasses of wine for 2 people is sub 100 euros.
If you like meat there will defo be something on the menu for you.
We tried to go for dinner but it was always fully booked - might not be so bad in November.

There was also a great pizza place not far away but I cant remember the name and cant find it google maps so maybe closed down as I last went a few years ago.

HTH.

If you venture towards the port area and are into craft beers, then FOAM is worth a look - interesting setup where you pour your own pint of whatever you fancy. You can then sit overlooking the marina and it's a nice change from the old town area, which is great but naturally that's where everyone flocks to in the evenings.

Nice is a fantastic city - I love the way you can enjoy the beauty of the riviera and the hustle and bustle of the city at the same time. Can't think of many other places which are like that.

Le Banthai is worth a visit if you like Thai food, you will need to book though,

Avoid the tourist trap places around the square. Wander down the backstreets and see what smells good!

I didn't eat here but saw this place as tempting if childless!

One week to go and looking forward to it. Does anyone have any other gems to pass along?

I’m struggling to find anywhere for traditional French or Nicoise food that doesn’t have massively inconsistent reviews.

You'll always get inconsistent reviews I think online, just go and discover for yourself, you won't find a bad meal in my view if you trust your instinct/gut.

I think trip advisor has given everyone FOMO and expectancy of five stars all the time.

If somewhere is pushing you to get in at the door then avoid, if its right on the plage du midi (Prom) then might be serving tourists other wise good places will advertise Plat Du Jour and be clear about the Evening Meals to me. I found this was done far more in Languedoc-Roussillon then the Riv mainly to serve the French and not tourists.

Never had a horrendous meal in Sud de France!

My wife is from Nice, so we often visit. For the local food, the cuisine nissarde focuses on restaurants that serve great local food - https://www.explorenicecotedazur.com/preparer/rest... we're currently working our way through their list and have yet to find one that we wouldn't recommend. For somewhere where the locals eat, a short tram ride from the centre, the excellent La Ratapignata is worth a trip or closer to the centre La table à Julie. In the old town Chez Acciardo is really good and Chez Palmyre is an interesting take. Reservations are usually needed for all of them. For street food, there is little better than waiting in line for a table at Chez Pipo for the socca and the torte de blette, just try not to over order the starters.

We were there last week and really enjoyed this place:
https://www.levingt4.fr/

The food was excellent and all the wine is available by the glass so you can have a different one with each course (which the owner will describe to you in weirdly accented very fast English!).

Another vote for levingt4, we've eaten there about 4 times and the food is consistently good.

One correction to my earlier post on the list of the Cuisine Nissarde website being consistently good, we've eaten at Chez Davia twice and whilst the food was good both times, the service was incredibly slow and inefficient.

Excellent - thank you all very much! I rarely gravitate towards Tripadvisor reviews to make a final decision but the disparity with some places in Nice seems huge - especially places that are lauded in the Michelin guide. It's more that I want the birthday meal to be spot on next Thursday.

Le Vingt4 is now booked for that, but I will be exploring many of the other suggestions where time allows!

Thanks again.

The tram system is excellent, but the ticket system is baffling and worth reading up on before you go as you can also use the same ticket on the buses. The red tram goes from the airport to the port. From the port you can catch a bus to Cap Ferrat where there are some lovely coastal walks. The waves were huge when we were there.

This is a brief but handy guide for wandering around:

Have a great time!

La Cuchina is brilliant - only a small number of tables and can’t reserve so people queue for a table 30 minutes before it opens at 7:00pm.
We went twice on our 5 night stay a couple of years ago.
Staff are great and food is lovely.

Not so many gourmet offerings, but Villefranche sur Mer is just around the corner (a very short train trip).

Great place to have an afternoon beer & watch the world go by.
