Hire car excess
Discussion
You would have to do the math's to see if its worth it for you, but I have a Platinum American Express and that provides hire car excess cover for any car I hire and pay for using the card. It saves me quite a bit over the year, and I once had to claim on it, the process took about 5 minutes and was completely hassle free.

I know there are companies that cover hire car excess but is there something that do it on a non specific basis.
I’m going on a week long Greek island cruise and may hire on 2 or 3 occasions. But I don’t know when or where.
Will a company cover anything like this?
Yup. I have an all-year, multi trip policy including the US, think it cost me £60-70. Covers me for any costs resulting from car hire up to £50k IIRC, not just excess. I’m going on a week long Greek island cruise and may hire on 2 or 3 occasions. But I don’t know when or where.

I had an annual policy with iCarhireinsurance until a couple of months ago, never had to claim so don't know what it would be like but reviews say they are OK. I too am going to Greece next month and will be hiring a car for a week or so and am now researching other hire car insurance to see if I can get a better rate/cover.
I have a £41 annual policy. EU.
I'm in Crete right now and they managed to pull the wool over my eyes even with my own insurance. They told me breakdown recovery for a flat tyre would be 300euros unless I took out a 40 euro extra breakdown policy. Was hot and very delayed and paid it (we are driving a LOT over here most days, and often on unpaved roads). Just looked up my car hire excess policy and it already covers recovery/ towing. DOH!
And, the shifty buggers showed me a full fuel guage (digital). I drove off and it dropped to the next bar within a mile. DIdnt think much of it but refilled to full yesterday then did a total of thee hours mountainous driving and it only shifted past the top bar at the end of the day! They must have syphoned out a fair bit! OR the last renter was carefull refilling :-)
