I want to take my mum on holiday 7-10 days ish not long haul so 6 or 7 hours no layover.

October or November nice weather, chilled and nice vibe. Somewhere a bit “different” maybe? Not just beech, maybe beech with something to do.

Any ideas gratefully received.

My 82 year old father in law is taking himself on a cruise around the Caribbean in January.
It fits the bill, not lots of walking, fully catered and everything taken care of. All he has to do is turn and enjoy it.

Cruises are ideal for this. We took my dad for his 75th and ended up getting hooked ourselves.

Just back from Malta.

Would be ideal.

3 h 15 flight.
Down load the Bolt app and taxi about. Cost's peanuts.

Have a look at some of the holidays on the Great Railway Journeys site.

Some of the European ones do not entail air travel. A lot of the others in the group will be elderly as well. The downside is that there is sometimes a high single supplement.

Montreal is right on the upper end of your allowable flight time, but that's a nice place, especially if you incorporate taking the train across to Quebec for a few days.

OP hasn't said Mum's age and interests, also no budget.

A bit of 'net searching will reveal lots of options. There are now many companies offering trips for solo travellers, making it easier to travel with Mum.

Some companies we have used that offer a wealth of trips are;
Saga, Riviera Travel, Travelsphere, Exoticca, Travelbag, Newmarket Holidays, Great Rail Journeys (already mentioned).

One of these or other companies will have something that will appeal.
Egypt, yes but ought to include a Nile cruise.

Echo Malta but go as early as you can. Temps dip pretty quickly into November.

Lots to see, good transport system, visit Gozo for the day or stay for a few days.

How about Lanzarote ? We have stayed here twice, https://www.hoteleselba.com/es/hotel/elba-premium-... Adults only section, nice individual villas,
Pool with a day time bistro, separate evening restaurant and lots more. Best to have a hire car and explore the island.
Weather in October and November is perfect.

Playa Blanca as above, Lanza is OAP central, that's why I love it.

Take them here: https://www.hipotels.com/en/hotels/naturapalace/

Mother and Father in law go for 3 weeks every so often and love it!!

Fuerteventura.

The other Canary Islands are OK but not a patch on the laid back chill factor of FV.

Caleta de Fuste is within 10 minutes of the airport, totally flat in its lower reaches (avoid the hill) and small and self-conatined enough to fit everything in.

firstly thanks for all the input, we have still not decided.

I was looking at Oman on Voyage Privae the other day with her and we both thought it looked really nice, but is a normal person destination? The hotels seemed proper up market, is it the sort of place where a dinner for 2 is £500+ wine?
