2023 has been a little more challenging than I had anticipated, although all good now, but nearly every year I normally do some sort of riding in Europe, normally France and I just haven’t had time this year, although I did get to ‘Opening Weekend’ in Belgium back in February to get some sort of cycling fix…
Anyway, a chance to combine a road trip in my old Citroen CX, throw my Look in the back, and hopefully bring some wine back seems like a good late season idea. I’m thinking drive to Mt Ventoux, ride up it, visit a vineyard or two, head home. I COULD do the drive in one hit, but I’ve done that before and even with the CX’s cosseting ride, you end up knackered. A quick look on the map puts the Dijon area as a good stop off, although I noticed Chalon sur Soane is nearby and I’m sure I’ve been there before. So PHers, fire away with hotel, stop over ideas in that area……

If you're staying near Bédoin go to Paul Vendran at La Ferme St. Pierre.

953 Chemin des Pontillards, 84410 Flassan, France

Makes outstanding organic wines which are easily the match of some of the Southern Rhône big hitters.

Fantastic riding around Ventoux as well as over the top. The climbs from Malaucène and Sault are as good as the traditional way up. The Gorges de la Nesque has a great road long easily inclined road which can be done as part of a 'Tour du Ventoux'
