Hello,

Heading to Majorca to do a bit of cycling with some mates early October. We’re staying in Puerto Pollenca and renting a boat on one day but I can’t seem to find anywhere that we can rock up on the boat and down a pina colada in a palm tree fringed bar.

Does anyone know anywhere that’s within an hours boat ride from Pollenca? We’re renting a decently quick boat so can travel.

Also, if anyone can recommend any decent restaurants for some 50 somethings that would be great

Thanks all

I can't help with restaurant via boat, however you have Formentor to the west and Alcudia to your east and I'm betting on the former for the best food!

Peurto Pollenca isn't really known for it's bars wink However for me the 'best' as in my favourite which I fly out to every year for my birthday is Voramar 57 (https://www.grupembat.com/voramar-57-pizzeria) on the Pine Walk. ///piggy.accompanied.foyer

Go during the day, flirt a little with the very attractive 50 something matriarch with the glasses (trust me, you'll know who I'm talking about) and ask her to reserve you a front line outside table at sunset so you can watch the moonrise over the mountains, right on the beach, under the pine trees, next to the mansion where they filmed The Night Manager.

I can also highly recommend Pizzería 011 italia which is just off the main square. It's a little street food place with an amazing chef (who if you engage with, will go out of his way to spoil you), draft beer and it's cheap as chips. I think I went 4 days on the trot last time I was there biggrin ///partakes.snorers.poke

Best food/atmosphere is where the locals go; Cellar La Parra (https://cellerlaparra.com/). Real traditional restaurant with big tables and lots of noise. It's on the main route (Carrer de Joan XXIII) heading out from the Marina ///shot.foreclosure.cushioning

If you get a chance, go to Pollenca (the old town) itself. If you do, I can recommend https://www.facebook.com/dodogranelpollenca/ just to the side of the main square. ///hurdling.corridors.wags

Hi, thank you, that’s really helpful and great tips for securing the best table. I’ll work on my Game in the next three weeks! Love the idea of the street food place too.

Appreciate the time taken to respond. The trip
Is meant to be mostly about cycling but we gotta eat, right?

On the subject of The Night Manager, if you have a good boat you may be able to reach Cala Deia on the west coast, where you can visit Ca’s Patro March which featured in the series.

Not sure if still open in October though.

NB this is a restaurant and not a bar - I see a few reviews where people have got arsey that they weren’t allowed just drinks

Just got back from Puerto Pollensa on Tuesday, absolutely love the place. They've really promoted the cycling since I last went in 2018, there were an awful lot of podgy middle aged men in lycra around... Always seems odd to me, having a super duper light weight carbon bike yet carting a beer gut around with you. laugh

Excellent, I should fit right in then! I know what you mean though - changing a component to save 200g when holding back in that second piece of cake might also do it….

Mmm, that is a fair way. Did think about it but it’s a fair way from Pollenca, even at 25 knots. We do have a car though…

Bonys is by far the best and most popular bar in Puerto Pollensa.

The measures in Bonys are laughably generous . Hotel Illa d'or is the nearest you are gonna get to a beach bar I'm afraid. Head north east and explore the coves with snorkles.. we ate at a place called Amazo and it was excellent. so many good restaurants there you really can't go wrong..

Slightly O/T but what is it about PP that makes it so appealing to cyclists? We went last year and drove around the local area a lot but I couldn't really work out what makes it so different to any other Spanish island or mainland Spain that appeals to cyclists.

First time for those of us going out there but some of the routes are very well known by cyclists and the combination of great road surfaces, agreeable weather and some challenging climbs make it a bit of a Mecca for us lycra fetishists. Sa Calobra is oft referred to as one of the worlds great climbs.

It’s also easy to get to, not expensive and (as we’re not the Ineos Grenadiers) a good place to eat and drink ourselves merry.

Agree with this, the island is large enough to allow several options for long rides, whereas menorca and Ibiza are too small. Many cyclists do head for Tenerife and Gran Canaria, but they are a bit further. To me Mallorca has the perfect balance and the mountains in the north are simply stunning.
