Happy to do things on the fly, do like to get the odd restaurant/live music venue booked if we can

Love live music, love Temple Bar, just wondered if the PH world fancied suggesting something I would not think about.

TIA

We did Dublin last year. The Temple Bar area is great for walking around but the pub itself a tourist trap. Depending on where you’re staying try Devitts. We popped in for one and stayed all night. Great live music and atmosphere.
Guinness factory tour is worth doing, as is the Little Museum of Dublin - we’re not museum people but it was quirky and different.

We did a road tour of Southern Ireland last year Finnishing up in Dublin for one night before flying home , we stayed in some lovely places but one day and night in Dublin was enough for us , but we are no party animals. Don't really know how you would fill a long weekend, as mentioned Kilkenny was great .

We went recently for a night before heading North. Hellfire was very nice for lunch, I’d happily go back for dinner. Elephant & Castle did some of the best wings I’ve had years ago but I didn’t make it back to see if they are still as good.

Go to Mulligans on Poolbeg St for the 3rd best pint of Guinness in Dublin (IIRC the top 2 aren't as handy to get to), it's only a few minutes walk from Temple Bar, proper Dublin Bar.
If you've seen the "Don't jinx it" ads on social media for Guinness, i'm fairly certain that's where they were filmed.

If you want a proper session of trad music then o'donoghues on merrion row is pretty much where it started.

Drunks drugs and homelessness

It's really quite grim in places even very much in the center
And horrendously expensive for no real good reason

I'd rather go to Blackpool

Ps the Guinness tour using a brewery tour they haven't brewed there since 1988 (they do some really decent food though)

Go to Galway, it’s where the Irish go

Great atmosphere, all walkable in the centre, great bars, live music, great restaurants

A real mix from trad bars to student bars and everything in between

Dublin is a kip in comparison

Prefer Edinburgh. Not a fan of Dublin, usually just full of drunks.

I do like Dublin but by God it’s expensive.

Quite a compact city and you’re running out of things to do but enough for a weekend. Guinness and Jameson tours are both pretty good. Kilmainham Gaol is interesting but book in advance for the tour and is a tram ride away. We did a walking tour explaining the history which was pretty good and took a few hours.

Temple Bar is a tourist trap. Get the obligatory pint and then move on and weep at what it cost you. There’s no shortage of decent pubs and bars (and at lower prices!!) so don’t be tempted to stay.

Even soft drinks are stupid prices €5 for a ribena at the airport, local is a bit cheaper but even club was about 2.30 a bottle

2 steak pie and 2 drinks was €50 in a pub not even close to tempal bar area

It feels even more spendy than London
