Anyone booked direct to go to the Maldives ?

As the tittle suggests has anyone booked direct to visit the Maldives rather than with a company (TUI or the like) ?
I have got to the stage of paying a deposit to secure a booking for next year - 20th Wedding Anniversary back to the island we had our honeymoon on, all the tour companies were fully booked so on the off chance I emailed the resort direct and after a bit of back and forth all of which was great I have agreed a booking and been sent a link for a 10% deposit.
The link just doesn't look right ?
Just thought I'd ask the question and see if anyone has experience ?

Sorry, no experience but couldn't you call and pay over the phone with a credit card?

We do it regular, and get a better rate booking with the island due to being repeat guests, admittedly the responce emails are just that, a bland confirmation, not like with an agent where they like to put all the bells and whistles on.
