Camping stove in a wooden hut
Discussion
We stayed in a wooden hut (fairly nicely done with proper windows, around 10m by 3m, not just a shed) and there was a butane camping stove supplied for cooking. Despite having the door and a window open, the CO alarm went off on the second evening, possibly because it was a still day so no through-ventilation exchanging the air inside.
There was also a little fire outside, mainly glowing wood and possibly a bit of old charcoal left from a previous barbecue - 2-3 metres away from the hut and on the end where there was no window open and the other end to the CO alarm. What's the likelihood that this was producing the CO that triggered the alarm? Nothing was triggered on the first evening but there was definite wind.
I know people can die from CO poisoning but just wanting to gauge how much of a fuss to kick up - should there be warning signs up explaining the dangers (not everyone would be aware) or should camping stoves just not be provided for cooking indoors?
