Recommend Market Town/Village 80th birthday
Discussion
Hi all
It's soon to be a parent's 80th birthday.
Looking for recommendations outside of London, within a 3hour drive.
There will be 9 of us, teenagers, adults and a baby.
The place must have a good center/high street to wander around.
Decent restaurants.
We need some interesting stuff to keep us occupied
- maybe a stately home/Castle etc to visit.
- theatre show
Etc
Something fun and entertaining is what I'm looking for.
We'd go Friday morning to Sunday evening.
We previously went to Warwick and really liked the castle and that the town was walkable.
This will be start of November, so it will be cold and dark!
We've been to Cambridge Oxford, Bury St Edmunds, Ludlow
Thanks

There’s Burghley House at the town, Belvoir Castle not too far away.

Bath is a great shout, worth checking the dates of the Christmas Market though. If you like paying £50 for a wooden tie and £17 for a cup of mulled wine you’ll love it.
Not sure you’ll occupy that much time in Marlborough but Winchester is another good choice.
Tetbury nice, good walks nearby at Westonbirt Arboretum.

Shrewsbury is quite nice. Prem Inn in the centre decent. Nice big park and walks along the Severn
Bury St Edmunds
I see you already mentioned Bury. Sorry.
Bath?
How far is York? It's gotta be a good shout.

What about, Bath, Winchester, Chichester or Wells?
Winchester: The Interactive Science museum & planetarium is a pretty good way to kill a few hours.Longleat: Is supposed to be really festive.
Glastonbury Carnival: 18th November
The whole family would love it.
