Interested on this one, never been that far east (we live in europe) but really want to this autumn, we are used to very nice hotels though and i’m unsure of the quality in croatia?
Five star in Croatia generally is more like four star in the rest of Europe. There are exceptions though- a couple of very nice hotels are palace hotel in hvar town and maslina resort near stari grad on hvar. Kerniki said:

Well look no further....https://www.maistra.com/properties/grand-park-hotel-rovinj/#/We stayed in an AirBnB about 5 mins walk from this place, the route through the hotel took us from our accommodation to the centre of town. Brilliant place - very quiet and understated. Old money.
Rovinj is great too.

Stayed in Rovinj earlier this year and it was very nice. Walked past the Grand Park and it certainly looked special so some good quality hotels, a pretty old town and a nice marina. Well worth trying.
Any suggestions on where you’d stay if you were stopping there for one night only, based on what you saw?Wife wants us to stop there on way back from Serbia in about 3.5 weeks time
Loved Croatia, I hated Split thought it was a st hole.
I spent too long in Dubrovnik (think it was like 4 or 5 days for some reason).
Hvar was a wonderful place for a couple of days.
I wouldn't want to stay put more than a few days in any one place and Id want to make the most of the scenery Croatia has to offer.
Worth a trip to the top of Sveti Jure if you're on the main land.
I want to go back preferably sooner rather than later, explore some more of the islands. Think its more of a chill and take in scenery sort of holiday.
I took a road bike, I know you're going with a few people (kids) so probably not an option, was also roasting hot. But its a good way of checking out places and taking in scenery.

Just come back from Dubrovnik (Zupa, Mlini region). Dubrovnik is a fabulous place, especially the old town but our hotel was a bit dated and nothing special (Hotel Astarea). We actually stayed in some villas attached to the complex rather than in the hotel itself.
There was a Hotel (Sheraton) not far which looked more special, and we were talking to a couple who were staying there who said it was lovely. Might be worth researching that one if you're happy be the other end from Split.
The old town can be enjoyed in a couple of days but it's a good spot to explore Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kotor Bay in Montenegro if passport stamps is your thing. We did that and really enjoyed it apart from the wildfires and the heat!

I went to Dubrovnik around 4 years ago with my girlfriend. We really enjoyed it, so much so she's taking her three daughters back at the end of the month.
We stayed a couple of miles outside of the centre of Dubrovnik in a really nice hotel on the coast, an easy bus ride into the centre. It can get busy when the cruise ships are in but try to avoid those times. Cavtat is lovely and a short'ish boat journey from Dubrovnik and nice to get away from the crowds. The Island off Dubrovnik is a nice visit, with the nudist beach being quite entertaining!
There are very few beaches with most hotels in the rocks adjacent to the sea. You could jump off the rocks from our hotel and the sea was easily 30-40ft deep.
The museum above Dubrovnik about the war was interesting. Showing lots of the ITN news reports, which I had a vague recollection of.
Food and drink costs pretty much the same as the UK.

Currently on Brac.
Take a look at https://www.gava-resort.com/
It depends on what you like but we would come back here. Good for a lazy break.
Weather is great. Local town of Milna is historic and not too touristy. Few nice bars and restaurants. Rocky beaches rather than sand which suits us. Good snorkeling.
People seem friendly enough. Haven't been hassled to buy tat yet.
Split is OK for a day or two but it is a big city

It's nice to extend the return journey and see a few different places, we'll probably stop one night in the Alps and then again in Belgium before coming back to the UK. Breaks the journey up nicely which is good for our 3 year old.

It was perfect, about a third of the cost of the Rovinj resort hotels, very manageable sized smaller town considering we were dragging a 3 year old, the wife is 7 months expecting and it was 37 degrees.
I was quite liking the idea of spending a second night there but unfortunately the fine weather ended abruptly with a biblical thunderstorm Monday morning and in fact the whole area up and around Trieste was badly affected with flooding, I was probably lucky to get the car out when I did.
As the weather was lousy all the way up through the Alps and Southern Germany we crashed one night near Munich then headed on up to Flanders and spent a couple of nights in Bruges before returning this evening.
9 countries and 3500 miles later…
Will definitely be going back to explore Istria in more detail and definitely want to see Rovinj
