Hey all, can anyone recommend somewhere to put the car for a week in the vicinity of Luton Airport at the end of August? - I am staying at the Airport Premier Inn the night before flying if that helps

G/f regularly flies from Luton and uses Air Parks at Slip End. Or did you mean for free?

They have a very convenient multi storey car park, right next to the terminal?

Thanks for the replies chaps - Ideally free but happy to pay for somewhere with a bit more piece of mind than trying to find a space on a street

If you want piece of mind you will need to pay for secure parking or hire somebody to drive you there and pick you up.

If not how lucky do you feel leaving you car unattended in Luton? smile

I think there was a thread on here couple of years ago re a guy who left his car parked on a residential street in Luton for free for 3 weeks or so while he want away somewhere and I don't think it was there when he got back, or it could have been vandalised, not sure which, my memory is not what it used to be.

I used to fly from Luton every week and tried different methods.

Slipend, as already mentioned, is fine and probably the best option in terms of off site car parks.

However, where I lived temporarily is very quiet and safe and about £10/8 mins in a taxi. You can even walk it in 45 mins if not carrying too much luggage.

PM if interested.

Imagine the insurance claim though.

When was your car stolen / damaged and how long was it left unattended for?

Oh sometime between August 30th and September 12th.

Was it in a secure parking lot?

Erm, no, it was on a quiet back street in Luton, can't remember the name now.

And where were you at the time it was stolen, damaged?

Erm, on the beach in Benidorm.

I see what you are saying, but isn't this exactly what insurance is for? I don't remember mine dictating where/when and how long for I can leave my car legally parked unattended?

ETA - No way in hell would I leave my car unattended around Luton though so err yeah, its a terrible idea. I would use the parking at the terminal and be done with it, depending on where you live there are decent public transport links into the place now (I know the horror!) the Luton Dart is supposed to be quite convenient now.

Only use the OFFICIAL airport parking site, https://www.london-luton.co.uk/parking?gclid=Cj0KC...

Five options raging from £12 to £18 a day. I`ve use the new multi story a number of times. Park yourself, take your keys, walk under cover to the terminal, your car is left safe undercover.
Don't get tempted by these "offsite cowboys", their are so many sites.

As for leaving your car on a side street

Offsite cowboys?

Whilst I'm sure there are plenty - there are also many many good firms that have been doing this properly for years - if not decades - air parks being one.

Most insurers, if not all ,will ask you where you park your car overnight.

I reckon abandoning your car in a side street, for a week or so in Luton, miles from your home address, might arouse their interest smile

Playing devil's advocate, the question is "where do you usually park your car overnight?"

If they had restrictions on where we could leave our cars, we wouldn't be able to visit people overnight, or use airport parking at all.

I've never been told I have to park the car in a secure place, I just have a responsibility to secure the car - i.e lock it and take the keys.

Don't disagree with that but you know what insurance companies can be like, and once their suspicions are raised and they start asking questions I suspect many would be happy to jump on anything to avoid paying a claim.

In my mind it is not worth the risk.

Others may of course differ smile

Just pay for the parking especially for peace of mind.

I've just paid £180 for a return airport trip in a taxi.
Could have drove and paid £120 parking.

Now I can have a beer on the way back. In fact, get a taxi you tight sod.

We often get airport parking threads.
I can never understand some people, they spend £2K to £4K on a holiday, own a £20K + car, but begrudge spending £150 to park it.

Flew from Luton twice last year, 1st time I used the multi storey at the airport as I was coming straight from work during rush hour,Parked up and walked across. £45

Used the slip end option with a few mates as it was only around £25, fine when we arrived as a bus was waiting but on the return journey the 1st bus became full and the 2nd bus was going to a different carpark owned by that company. Probably waited about 30 minutes in total, you then have a 15 minute bus ride.

Depends if you want to save £20 or save time
